I thought it was already with TransPenine for testing with a class 68 loco?
It should have moved from Norwich on the 21st to Laira for refurbishment before it heads off to TPE.
It didn't happen and is still residing on Crown Point.

It may have been a facebook post, but I saw that GWR will be retaining the units until 2018, having an 'impact up north'.

That FB post looks as if it included a lift from the NAO report. Until the exact 2017/8 cascade has been worked out the use of LHCS can't be ruled out but it now doesn't look likely to be a huge number of sets.

Any update on the tender for business yet

Nothing. Probably will never happen. The latest is that the Cardiff/Taunton/West of England route will be short HSTs. I have read on a Forum that there are already 4 HST coaches in Doncaster Works for Power doors to be fitted.

Don't understand the need for IEP programme then if HST stay
Electric trains are required to operate the (partially) electrified GWML, and the Hitachi trains can improve journey times and increase capacity. The HSTs are forty years old, making all of Great Western's HST sets PRM TSI compliant by 2020 would be a huge undertaking, and half of them (in terms of power cars, less in terms of total vehicles) are earmarked for use by Scotrail.

The retention of the 14 cl.153 units till at least January 2018 now means LHCS is no longer required.

Not sure that this had a direct influence on the LHCS but the supposed decision to use the short HSTs on the route

No - it was the DMU shortfall prior to the Didcot switch on that was driving the LHCS requirement. The short HST units, apart from the prototype unit, were (and are) not due in service until late 2018.

Now that the 143 and 153 units are being retained for longer and the cascade of the bulk of the 150/1 units to Northern has been put back, the stock shortfall during 2017 will no longer exist.

All talk of LHCS had gone quiet. Still I'm not going to expect anything now until it happens as there have been so many changes of plan due to slippages, the main one being electrification.

With the delays caused by the wiring, could the Summer Saturday 57 hauled extra be making a comeback this summer?

Last year. Plymouth to Exeter return run hopeful this year. Great value on £10 Devon rover ticket

As posted on its own thread a while back, summer Saturday trips will be on for this year but probably the last season subject to cascade timing.

Someone has put on Wikipedia that this month's Modern Railways is reporting (p. 67) that GWR will
retain 24 powercars and 48 carriages to form 11 four-carriage sets for use on local services between Cardiff and Penzance. These will be fitted with automatic doors and controlled emission toilets to allow there operation beyond 2020 at Doncaster Works.

Is this correct?

No official confirmation, but yes, it is.

4 GW trailers are at Wabtec as the first conversions.
