Today’s cancellation list is dire.

Cancelling ICT services in the base timetable on routes like Penzance, Bristol and Cardiff to Paddington is a terrible way to run a railway.

It’s pretty awful really. But drivers aren’t obliged Sundays so they don’t, especially on August bank holiday weekend.

Is there a link to the list? The GWR website doesnt appear to have anything currently.

Well, if people don’t want to work their Sundays which the majority are entitled not to, this is what happens. Probably slightly more compounded by the fact that the current RDW agreement means Sundays are paid at a lower rate than doing rest day work

Perhaps the Railway should change to a system of not advertising trains in a timetable until and unless a complete set of traincrew has been allocated to it?

Blimey, that’s a long list. And yet ‘There is a Good Service operating across our network’!

There are now 4 service disruption alerts on the GWR. Not going to be helped by a signal failure just outside Swindon on the Golden Valley line (being used by all S Wales trains today). Line Blocked currently. My Cardiff-London now 24mins late and packed with grumpy people.

By my reckoning that’s 23 coaches of passengers at Plymouth all crammed into the 5 coach 0927 to Glasgow.

And that’s not even GWR so probably wrong get a lot of sympathy from XC asking for ticket acceptance

Edit
It gets worse, the next Paddington was cancelled as well. Pretty poor way to run a passenger railway. We’re treated like fools.

And before I’m accused of being critical of GWR staff, I’m not, I’d probably do the same given the circumstances but something has to be done to address the issue for the future.

Sundays aren't even committed on GWR for the majority of train crew. All voluntary overtime.

So Bank Holiday weekend and this is what you get.

I believe guarfs and former HSS drivers have Sundays completely outside the working week (in that they’re not committed to working irrespective of if they can cover the turn)? GWR drivers have committed Sundays.

While ‘GWR’ drivers have committed Sundays, they also don’t sign all the same routes

I believe all lines between Reading and Paddington are now blocked due to an object on the OLE. Just keeps getting better...

And a trespasser or trespassers outside Paddington could be carnival related

And not a great day to be travelling to the Dutchy

1515 left Plymouth for Penzance 9 late then nothing until 1840.

The 1540, 1635, 1715 and 1730 all cancelled. You have to feel for the people who’ve had their weekends ruined, by having to hang around Plymouth for 3, yes THREE hours for a train.

Simply not good enough

The TfL status says PLEASE AVOID PADDINGTON STATION. I can imagine it's rather fraught right now...

When is this absurd situation, whereby Sunday service depends on how many staff volunteer to do overtime, going to be sorted out? Is there any other seven day industry that relies on voluntary overtime for standard operational days?

When someone decides they want to pay for it.

Well the people that work it obviously already do get paid for it, what we need is a transition to including Sunday in the working week for all new recruits

Wasn't reforming RDW part of the train driver pay settlement negotiations, which Labour dropped?

All new recruits have that on GWR….
That's good though

Paddington station is exit only at the moment.

Carnival related trespass and something thrown onto the OLE.

That's good to know, thank you. Although seems a bit unfair if different employees at the same company are on different conditions?

New starters being on different T&Cs is quite normal.

HSS drivers will eventually retire & those T&Cs will disappear.

Do you know for a fact it was thrown onto the OLE?

The driver of the Crossrail train I was on which got stuck at West Ealing said it was plastic on the OLE at Ladbroke Grove but no info on how it got there...

How does that work, out of interest?

This is all rather unfortunate given that the TfL Carnival travel advice was to use the Elizabeth Line and Paddington where possible.
