Guess the Station...

Thanks very much.

It brings back happy memories of visiting this station in July 1979 on a circular trip bus/rail trip around the North Yorkshire Moors. I stayed with my late dad at a hotel in Helmsley Market Place (and still have a water colour painting of it that he bought then) and the route was:
  • Bus - Helmsley to the road summit north of Chop Gate (United Automobile Services route 292)
  • Walk - Summit north of Chop Gate to Battersby station
  • Rail - Battersby to Grosmont (British Rail first generation dmu)
  • Rail - Grosmont to Pickering (North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train)
  • Bus - Pickering to Helmsley (United Automobile Services route 128)
Sadly, the withdrawal of the regular bus service via Chop Gate (there still is a peak summer Moorsbus service on July/August weekends), and the reduction in service 128 to only 5 journeys per day Mon-Sat between Helmsley and Pickering, mean that this itinerary is no longer possible, except on July/August Saturdays starting at Pickering.

I recall talking to the signalman at Battersby while waiting for the train (we arrived 30 minutes early). There was extensive signalling at that time, but he was generally only busy during the 15 minute period every 2 hours when the 2 dmus passed there.

Anyway, enough of my reminiscences.

Open floor.

I recognise the (admittedly extremely good) photo but can't remember the location so I'll go Willesden Junction

You've all got the correct idea - it isn't any of those three though.

No, but I think that's geographically closest so far.

One of the first three guesses began with the correct first letter
