Guess the Station...

Well done then, and over to you!

First of all, it was only ever going to be an FCC station, given the c2c/WAGN name boards - and the 3 car stop sign which disallows c2c. After that, a careful examination of the name board (what little can be made out) suggested that it was Xxxx X Xxxx, or similar, which left only two - Watton-at-Stone and Ashwell & Morden. Although the 3 car stop sign suggested the former, I went with the latter based on your location. First rule of this thread is to avoid local stations wherever possible, barring the odd one to throw everyone! I have done seven stations within 25 miles of Bath (two of which were Bristol TM, my only duplicate to date), and two within 25 miles of Southend; the latter is fair for the number I've put up but the former is probably two to many.

And speaking of which, welcome to the club! Everyone on here has a nemesis somewhere in the thread. Mine was 4SRKT, and latterly has been Matt Taylor. Track Basher always seems to be the second most likely with mine, based on how often each person posts. Unless it's a Welsh station.

P.S.: I've never done the Hitchin - Cambridge line.

I did do Letchworth, which was my location, and that was by far the one I posted which took longest to be figured out, even though it was written in my Location the whole time!

Anyway, total guess for the picture, Potters Bar.

I vaguely recognise this, judging by the steelwork I reckon it's a 1970s rebuild/act of vandalism. There doens't look to be any overhead electrification, but in lieau of any better ideas, I think it may be Southern. South Croydon?

I’ve never used “me lad” (in the singular, at any rate), even in my broadest Mackem moments. I’m much more likely to use “Marra” instead. But then again, as I say, I’m Mackem, not Geordie, so there’s a difference. It’s all in the way we pronounce the “O”s. Impossible to decipher between the two for an outsider with an untrained ear, but sticks out like a sore thumb if you’re a mackem in the Percy (and hence either a brave or very foolish individual).

You must have a better screen than I (or eyes!) - I could detect a 'Northern' logo (at least it looked more like that than anything else) but not the name... assumed you had blurred it out Mind you I'm using an old laptop.

And yes, it is managed by Northern.

P.S.: I can make it out even on the original at 60% zoom, which has been heavily cropped down (it actually has a train in it which would be a dead giveaway). What you are seeing is that cropped bit magnified 1.5x. And fo eyesight... I wear glasses. I'm short-sighted.

Well I'm struggling to make a first guess - looking at the size of the station sign it's either a very short name or a two/three word name. Safe to say I don't recognise the 'view'...

Must have at least 3 platforms, as it looks like photo taken from moving train.

It does have at least three platforms, but I was on the platform. As I said, this shot has been magnified which would explain the imperfect quality (otherwise the shot would be barely 200px wide, which isn't enough in my opinion).

Hartlepool is incorrect. Hull is managed by TPE.

At least three platforms, that narrows it down a lot. That (I think) rules out the whole of the North-East, as it is nothing like Sunderland, whose island platform is numbered as four platforms rather than two.

I very much doubt that its right, but Bolton has some rubbish modernised elements. That's my stab, by the way.

I'd be worried if someone called Sunderland! I've never been there (nearly went a few weeks ago though; I even went as far as dreaming that I should go via Manhester to take advantage of the cheaper TPE Advances!), and yet even I know that it is underground.

This station is not Bolton. However, there are quite a few stations in the north-east that have more than two platforms. There is also the small matter of the not-so-far-north of Sheffield (obviously not Sheffield itself; EMT manage it) etc.

I thought of Wigan Wallgate but that has a big stone wall, and one of its three platforms is a bay. So not that.

Southport has enough platforms but I have no idea what it looks like - also that sign shape looks wrong for that word. And I've just realised it's run by Merseyrail, aargh. So not that.

Wakefield Kirkgate possibly? (though the track in the photo just doesn't look like that layout)

Everything else so far I've looked at seems to have OHLE or only 2 platforms...
