Over the years I have missed very few bit of line that have closed. I did in the early years because I was only noting where I was going and not trying to cover the whole network, routes missed were:
- Kilmacolm
- Clayton West
- Selby - York (old ECML)
- Woodhead
The ones I can remember.
The only miss in recent times was Custom House - North Woolwich but this was because the 2EPB failed and was sent back. I only discovered it was closing after the event.
Some of my personal favourites are the Scottish routes north of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Good memories myself and 3 friends decided to have a Christmas party at Corrour in Jan 89 while waiting between trains (last week of Class 37s on the line).
Dent has changed little the road up to it is very steep and over the coal road to Garsdale.
Dovey Jn is one that is going through considerable change at present and I am interested in seeing what the final track layout will be. Last year it was still work in progress.
Some of my other favourites were Broad St this was a 1950s station in the middle of the city of London. I travelled out of it once on the one train a day to Watford Jn.
I have said this before on here it is a real shame than many people who live in this country do not get to experience the beautiful scenary we have to offer.

I've also been track bashing (or 'line gricing' as we call it) most of my life. Started spotting in 1982 aged 11, although I'd travelled extensively prior to this. Got my dad to tell me where we'd been (he's also a gricer), ticked them off on the map you used to get with the timetable, and proceeded from there. Rapidly moved from spotting to bashing within 2-3 years and gave up recording numbers of locos other than those for haulage by the time I was 14. All the time line gricing was in the background and eventually became the only focus (other than the sheer pleasure of riding around on the railway of course).
Unlike some other posters I regard closure of awkward bits of line as fortuitous as it means I don't have to bother with them. I also missed Clayton West, Broad Street, Kilmacolm, Balloch Pier and others even though I could have done them. I sort of regarded the railway as having done my job for me by shutting them!

Kewl! I noticed in one of the photos I was considering posting that these platforms were still in the background at sometime in the early 90s. When did these platforms cease to be used (what were they used for?) and when were they demolished?

Not sure at what point they were removed. The photo was taken in 1989. These were not public platforms and only used by parcels trains.

Evening all....I am still keeping an eye on this thread and there have been a few today that I found fairly easy but I've been out all day, in fact when the picture of Shepperton was posted I was actually on a train going to Shepperton to see an estate agent! Anyway, I'll still keep trying to get a few answers when I can but I'm currently at training school and start learning 450s, 444s and 455s on thursday followed by route learning next month and in April so I'm not quite as active as I was last month.
Let's hope I don't fail to get an answer right when a station on one of my routes gets posted here.
