Prior to 1980 it was a legal requirement that a bus driver or conductor had to display their PSV licence badge when at work.
This was unique to them, and meant they could be identified if necessary. No nonsense about names on display then!!
Sometimes the old ways are the best ways .....
Yes indeed and some of us old hands (though I no longer drive psv) still have our badges.

I thought police only had to wear their numbers,PC49 etc.
Yeah. They're only have to tell you their collar number and their station.

That's all we can ask for, as traincrew. And, in my previous lives, working very closely alongside the Police, when I required signatures, it would be collar number only.

No one has been negative. Nor has anyone said that anyone should state “it’s not my job, guv”. People who do the job have simply pointed out that customer service isn’t a part of the driver role.

As for “intervening” when other staff do their jobs, how would you feel if a member of platform staff came and told you how to drive your train?

As for telling others to change their jobs. It sounds as though you go looking for interaction with passengers. If you crave it that much, maybe you should retrain as a guard?
Of course customer service is part of being a driver. We are all responsible for customer service with no exceptions.
