Pleased to see it open on time.

Is work planned for the adjacent bridge, also filled by blockwork between piers?

I used the diversion from Manchester to Crewe and the rail replacement coach from and to Stoke-on-Trent again this week. All ran smoothly and to time. A lot of rather empty coaches running back and forth though going by the ones I was on and saw departing Stoke and Crewe.

Of course not... You don't remember https://www.ioshmagazine.com/2025/0...eaths-reflects-gravity-network-rails-failings ?
a £3.75 million fine and forgotten already? If it can go wrong, it will.
And https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly446r0x8eo (£3.41 million) of course...

Yes I do remember. Very well. These were both deeply upsetting to me personally.

As a direct result, the rules about working on the track were changed, and under normal circumstances colleagues are not permitted to be working or even walking on a line open to traffic.

The 'all-stations' buses from Wilmslow towards Stockport were operated by Warrington's Own - I had to do a double take when out cycling! Blackpool Transport were operating some other services from Stockport also.

It's not just about staff working within the rules though. That concrete "fence" between the uprights should have disappeared with them - apart from the one allegedly supporting a signal and its immediate support (we were told that even the foundation slab was going) as it is an unnecessary obstruction between the running lines. I suspect BTP chasing a trespasser would cause far less delay than said trespasser minced under a train.

Your comment was about workers getting killed, not the central support or BTP chasing someone.

What has been a concern was the diversionary route via Longshut Lane, where the traffic lights at the junction with the A6 could have been amended to allow the traffic using the diversionary route to be given more time.
Some time ago, the lights were amended to change the pedestrian crossing sequence and pedestrians cannot now cross Wellington Rd on the north of the side of the junction where the crossing areas have been fenced off. This results in a more frequent sequencing of the lights. Any delays on Longshut Lane are usually caused by dozy motorists not noticing that the queue is moving and so the sensors assume there is no more traffic coming. In addition any of the diverted buses that turn left onto Wellington Road do take some time to turn as it is quite sharp. That's why some diverted buses go straight on and then turn left down Hillgate. Some bus times have been amended by a few minutes to accommodate actual journey times, which of course is easy now that all are under the Bee Network, rather than private operators.

Stockport County's Edgeley Park football ground is very near the railway station normally and League One matches have good attendances, but for most of this current season until early next year, this road roundabout closure completely disrupts the normally direct route for away supporters travelling to Stockport by train who normally just have a short walk from the station to the ground.

You seen to have forgotten that the roundabout has been closed since the end of January this year, so County's matches have been affected since then. There seems to have been no affect on attendances and as has been pointed out, the alternative walking routes from the station are well established and used. Perhaps you should come down and see what happens instead of speculating from afar in Lancashire?

It is good to see that work was completed on time and trains are are running again. The RRB operation has been quite effective from personal observation and use, although the Stockport - Wilmslow buses have not been busy. Most have been double-deckers, including some new Warrington ones, which being yellow, have been mistaken for a Bee Bus from a distance. :D

It seems many people using Wilmslow used cars to get there; the station forecourt was barriered off and access was limited by staff to buses and taxis. Bus marshals were very active there. The surrounding roads were very busy with queues into and out of the car park. With only Platforms 1 & 2 in use, the Northern staff were very busy keeping the crowds safe and supplying information. It seemed a pretty efficient operation all round.

The sad thing about this project is that NR aren't able to offer any compensation to businesses affected, particularly those at the east end of Castle St in Edgeley or the Armoury Pub on the other side of the roundabout. They have had to close their kitchen and amend their opening hours due to the lack of footfall.

It seemed to work OK.

I went to Crewe and came back with @yorkie a week ago, I went on a cheap Northern advance and was overtaken in Chelford Loop as booked. Back with Avanti.

I went to London a few days ago and stupidly missed the train, so didn’t have to wait long for the next one. On my return I only came from Stafford and there was a very frequent service, priced by WMT, so a first open single was fine. Actually used XC for the first time in ages. This time we overtook the stopper in Chelford Loop.

At Wilmslow they opened the side exit from platform 1 which helped a lot. I can walk home from there, but the forecourt seemed busy and reasonably well signed.

Back to the normal “poor” service from Wilmslow now. I’m not really complaining!

how about looking at the highway authority website?
Comment said hypothetically and sarcastically to those who train travel time disruption will not be anything like time-disrupted as those unfortunate car/van drivers and bus passengers whose normal quick travel at the traffic roundabout at the top of the bridge will have to endure for months to come...<D

But that has been discussed in previous posts and locals are saying its a small inconvenience. Repeating it doesn't make it true.

As The Planner said :). The forward planning and information/communication was very good. Having said that, the staff and young people at the local primary school directly adjacent mustbe really looking forward to the roads etc. being finished as the school is very, very close to the work.

I am one of those locals and use the 368 bus from Heald Green to Stockport on a regular basis, so I speak from experience of the bus disruption, which is scheduled to carry on until March 2026.

I'm not sure what you expected to happen? The bridge was life-expired - doing nothing was not an option. I think the alternative arrangements have worked very well - for rail, bus and road traffic.

Looks like an extra 10 minutes on the timetable at peak times , 5 minutes off peak .Unless you are saying that the busses are still regularly running even later than that not sure I would consider that "disruption" on a massive scale given the nature of the work and closure .

Are there any other bridges in the area that were originally constructed in the same time period as the Greek Street bridge that too will be life-expired and in need of replacement?
