and cut down the chance of trapped on-track staff getting away from a moving train.
Staff wouldn’t be on any line with trains running.

Of course not... You don't remember https://www.ioshmagazine.com/2025/0...eaths-reflects-gravity-network-rails-failings ?Staff wouldn’t be on any line with trains running.
Keep up. Red zone working is banned since those incidents.Of course not... You don't remember https://www.ioshmagazine.com/2025/0...eaths-reflects-gravity-network-rails-failings ?
a £3.75 million fine and forgotten already? If it can go wrong, it will.

The 'all-stations' buses from Wilmslow towards Stockport were operated by Warrington's Own - I had to do a double take when out cycling! Blackpool Transport were operating some other services from Stockport also.Pleased to see it open on time.
Is work planned for the adjacent bridge, also filled by blockwork between piers?
I used the diversion from Manchester to Crewe and the rail replacement coach from and to Stoke-on-Trent again this week. All ran smoothly and to time. A lot of rather empty coaches running back and forth though going by the ones I was on and saw departing Stoke and Crewe.
Your comment was about workers getting killed, not the central support or BTP chasing someone. It's not just about staff working within the rules though. That concrete "fence" between the uprights should have disappeared with them - apart from the one allegedly supporting a signal and its immediate support (we were told that even the foundation slab was going) as it is an unnecessary obstruction between the running lines. I suspect BTP chasing a trespasser would cause far less delay than said trespasser minced under a train.
yes, but I can also see the wider picture.Your comment was about workers getting killed, not the central support or BTP chasing someone.
Some time ago, the lights were amended to change the pedestrian crossing sequence and pedestrians cannot now cross Wellington Rd on the north of the side of the junction where the crossing areas have been fenced off. This results in a more frequent sequencing of the lights. Any delays on Longshut Lane are usually caused by dozy motorists not noticing that the queue is moving and so the sensors assume there is no more traffic coming. In addition any of the diverted buses that turn left onto Wellington Road do take some time to turn as it is quite sharp. That's why some diverted buses go straight on and then turn left down Hillgate. Some bus times have been amended by a few minutes to accommodate actual journey times, which of course is easy now that all are under the Bee Network, rather than private operators. What has been a concern was the diversionary route via Longshut Lane, where the traffic lights at the junction with the A6 could have been amended to allow the traffic using the diversionary route to be given more time.
Stockport County's Edgeley Park football ground is very near the railway station normally and League One matches have good attendances, but for most of this current season until early next year, this road roundabout closure completely disrupts the normally direct route for away supporters travelling to Stockport by train who normally just have a short walk from the station to the ground.
Certainly was in use every time I got off there. At Wilmslow they opened the side exit from platform 1 which helped a lot.
Won't there be further rail blockades before the job is fully completed?Shall we shut this thread now the line has been back open since Saturday?

Depends if you define weekends as a blockade.Won't there be further rail blockades before the job is fully completed?
How many months still to go before the roundabout atop this bridge will once again see road traffic?Shall we shut this thread now the line has been back open since Saturday?

how about looking at the highway authority website? How many months still to go before the roundabout atop this bridge will once again see road traffic?
Comment said hypothetically and sarcastically to those who train travel time disruption will not be anything like time-disrupted as those unfortunate car/van drivers and bus passengers whose normal quick travel at the traffic roundabout at the top of the bridge will have to endure for months to come...how about looking at the highway authority website?
But that has been discussed in previous posts and locals are saying its a small inconvenience. Repeating it doesn't make it true.Comment said hypothetically and sarcastically to those who train travel time disruption will not be anything like time-disrupted as those unfortunate car/van drivers and bus passengers whose normal quick travel at the traffic roundabout at the top of the bridge will have to endure for months to come...![]()
. The forward planning and information/communication was very good. Having said that, the staff and young people at the local primary school directly adjacent mustbe really looking forward to the roads etc. being finished as the school is very, very close to the work.Won't there be further rail blockades before the job is fully completed?
4-6 October, I think. There will be more railway work required in October and over Christmas 2025.
I am one of those locals and use the 368 bus from Heald Green to Stockport on a regular basis, so I speak from experience of the bus disruption, which is scheduled to carry on until March 2026.But that has been discussed in previous posts and locals are saying its a small inconvenience. I'm not sure what you expected to happen? The bridge was life-expired - doing nothing was not an option. I think the alternative arrangements have worked very well - for rail, bus and road traffic.I am one of those locals and use the 368 bus from Heald Green to Stockport on a regular basis, so I speak from experience of the bus disruption, which is scheduled to carry on until March 2026.
Looks like an extra 10 minutes on the timetable at peak times , 5 minutes off peak .Unless you are saying that the busses are still regularly running even later than that not sure I would consider that "disruption" on a massive scale given the nature of the work and closure .I am one of those locals and use the 368 bus from Heald Green to Stockport on a regular basis, so I speak from experience of the bus disruption, which is scheduled to carry on until March 2026.
But clearly you are managing with it. Its been closed for five months now.I am one of those locals and use the 368 bus from Heald Green to Stockport on a regular basis, so I speak from experience of the bus disruption, which is scheduled to carry on until March 2026.
Are there any other bridges in the area that were originally constructed in the same time period as the Greek Street bridge that too will be life-expired and in need of replacement?I'm not sure what you expected to happen? Unless @Sir Felix Pole is a NR structures engineer, I doubt they are going to know. Are there any other bridges in the area that were originally constructed in the same time period as the Greek Street bridge that too will be life-expired and in need of replacement?
