Excellent. Thanks for this. Based on what I've been reading on here, it seems that applying to various TOC's whilst you go through a protracted process of several years of assessments and waiting around is the way forward

Only NRW has 'lost' it's 'grandfather' rights of depot driver to local/mainline link progression..to the best of my knowledge..

Ahh, I'd heard it was blanket. Interestingly, would it apply to everyone, or just to those starting after it was brought in? If you had signed a contract saying that "after blah blah service you will be promoted to a mainline link" then surely you'd be able to say I signed the contract on that basis?

Side point - I had a look, out of curiosity, and the depots listed were:
Liv St,
Norwich,
Clacton,
Ilford,
Colchester,
Cambridge,
Bishops Stortford and;
Southend Vic

What sort of routes would these depots sign?

Anybody know what the qualified rate of pay is?

Also it states on the AGA website, there are two pension schemes and only after 2 years - can you contribute to the final salary one? I've never heard of this before - is that correct for Drivers?

DK1 is better placed to comment on depot movements at NRW, than i now am.

Routes will depend upon your signed off route card. Most depot route cards will be covered during your training, in order for when you become live, in the roster, you will be able to cover all the depot diagrams..

Er thats very very incorrect. All new depot drivers have lost the automatic right of promotion to the mainline and now have to apply for it when vacancies come up. But having said that I know of managers who have said that they think depot drivers will still have the best chance of getting the mainline trainee positions if they have a good record.

Have no idea which depots these positions are for because there are still loads of current depot drivers who still have the automatic promotion right to the mainline ahead of anyone new.

I'm interested as to why it matters really. If you are applying for a trainee position you can't really afford to be picky on depots based on what they sign. You can lateral move from one depot to another once qualified and completed 2 years.

Liverpool st has a transfer request list nearly half a page long and some drivers have been waiting years to get to that depot. Clacton, Colchester and Ilford still have loads and loads of depot drivers with the right of promotion.

I have passed all the assesments with Gtr. Failed on the managers interview. Does anyone one if greater anglia would use my opc tests results or where they would use another set of tests? Do I have to start from scratch?

Help would be much appreciated.

Gtr have a high pass requirement compared to most other toc's so you should be fine with the passes you already have.

Attitude?? Really?? You made it sound like you were applying and wanted to know which depots signed what so you could pick your favourite. If you are not even applying then its even less relevant!

They are looking for you to know information about the company that is freely available.

At least for the moment GA seem happier recruiting and training new drivers than upping pay to retain those already driving. Good news for anybody wanting to become a driver!

I'm very rusty on what assessment levels are required now & have been amazed in the last couple of years as to those I consider would make very good drivers who have then failed on attitude or failure to be assertive enough. I too thought it was just Crown Point that had lost the automatic line of promotion. Suppose if it had involved me I would have shown more interest.

All former GE depots have lost automatic promotion for depot drivers hired after April this year I think. A few mates of mine who work at Ilford are among the last of the depot drivers guaranteed a mainline job. I don't know about former Anglia, and West Anglia never had depot drivers in the first place.

All depot drivers who were appointed after the last pay deal went through have lost the automatic right to promotion to the main line at all GE depots. But you still have quite a lot of depot drivers at Norwich, Clacton, Colchester, Southend and Ilford who still have the right to mainline training and promotion to the mainline links.
