Around the locking lights? Not sure what you mean by that but I agree with you that the grey/white around the doors looks messy (the sleek appearance is also somewhat ruined by the fact pocket doors were used rather than plug doors). The class 802s and possibly the class 800/3s will be painted green rather than vinyled I beleive so they will look neater but still in need of plug doors sadly.

I was travelling back from Doncaster to London Kings Cross on the 0803 service off Doncaster on Wednesday night, to find GWR Class 180104 turned up complete with 'First Great Western' on the side and even GWR WiFi inside. Must be a tad confusing for customers...
Though I understand that these swaps take place when the HT sets require maintenance at Old Oak. I went to the buffet whilst on the train and found a notice:
"Please accept our sincere apologies that the buffet facilities are out of use on this service. Please help yourself to a bottle of water and a packet of biscuits free of charge below"
Given that GWR don't use their buffets on the 180's at all, I'm not surprised HT couldn't use it. Also noticed the lack of TV, where HT put BBC News Headlines, the GWR sets only have the PIS display. The Standard class seats had HT seat labels, however First Class had no seat labels at all!

Pretty obvious not this move from the timing load. Had picked up that the 143 was going so watch this space.
EDIT:- Neither the 31 nor the 143, but actually 50008 en route from Okehampton and due to return there next weekend.

Surely though if it was going to Bristol it would be for suspension upgrades like 143619, 143617 and 143618 (recently returned) have had. Although I know the 143s are staying until 2019 so it could be for both, we will have to wait and see what happens I guess...

The 3 you mention went to PM for the suspension work but 620 has gone to Barton Hill where they paint them. Could have the other work done as well.
Paint only, it isnt due for suspension work.

So will it have suspension work in the future if it doesn't have it whilst its up there and will the interiors be refurbished like the 150/2s and 158s because the 158s are having their refurbishment done there and the interiors are being done on them. I also wonder if it will be one advertising one of the Devon branches or Exeter or perhaps just a plain livery like the 153s are having right now?

153380 on it's way back from Long Marston and 153382, the last one, due to leave PM at 12+48 if they can get in and out of Bristol due to an ongoing major points and signalling failure.
I'm not even sure the PIS even works anymore, I have never seen it switched on. GWR give the impression that they gave up on the class years ago.

If the 143 is going to be repainted, I am excited to see what they're going to do with them. Are three still planned to be repainted into GWR green Devon Metro branch lines, one into red 'Visit Exeter' livery and the rest just receiving GWR altering to the FGW local lines livery?
Yes, the PIS does work, I do the odd journey on GWR 180s where the scrolling display is running, but it seems to be down largely to individual staff members as to whether it is switched on. Mercifully, no one ever switches on the automated announcements, which always seemed to go on forever.
FGW gave up on the class in 2008-9 but a lot of effort has been put into the ones that came back to GW service in 2012, both refurbishing them at Kilmarnock (including the first wifi on FGW trains) and since then at Old Oak - which has also been doing all heavy maintenance on the Hull Trains fleet.
Probably the worst journey I have had on a 180 recently was when a Hull Trains 180, I forget which one, was turned out a couple of years ago in place of a failed HST on the 17.50 Paddington to Worcester. Plenty of rattles from interior panels and I dread to think what was going on under the floor with the amount of transmission noise and something else down there making a racket too.
Quite possibly the worst ride I've had on a 180 in the GW area on countless journeys in 2004-9 and since 2012.

Just seen a pic of 143620 at St Philips Marsh in green. The promotional liveries appear to have been ditched in favour of a regular GWR livery.
Interestingly, it seems that the Class 143s will only have one matte sash per carriage, in comparison to the rest of the DMU/EMU fleet.
Contrasting areas around the doors is no longer limited to the doors, with an outline around the doors now also painted in the GWR contrasting silver.

Cool thanks for the info. I wasn't sure what happened to it this morning as it was supposed to move from Barton Hill to St Phillips Marsh but it was cancelled due to a delay.

I am also subscribed to Dawlish Beach: http://new.dawlishbeach.com. And I have seen all the other pacers in service today so I guess they were so short of units in Exeter they had to keep it down here to provide a service.

I think that looks quite handsome.
It looks good! The 'local lines' livery really suited the 143s and 150/2s in my opinion but most were/are in desperate need for a repaint.
Also the novelty factor wore off pretty quickly. Plus the effect on the weary commuter on a rainy Monday morning being confronted with an in-your-face list of tourist destinations could be a bit...galling.
