I agree that they sound disjointed, they've also added announcements between Maidenhead and West Drayton to warn you of the overhead wires at every station!

Who are these announcements aimed at? Do they imagine that train surfers will be unaware of the electrification?! GWR seem to be intent on perpetuating FGW's policy of verbose announcements, despite their promise some time back that they were rationalising and shortening them.

On the North Downs line we are exhorted to have "tickets and travel documents ready for the station ticket gates", to be aware of "any suspicious items and people acting suspiciously" (i.e. 'anything suspicious'), and so on, in seemingly interminable background droning.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to increase security at the sidings than to keep paying for the vandalism?

Incidentally I know what you mean about the interior of the 166 - I had the (Mid)fortune of catching the gWr HST set the other day and the interior in that continues to look a shambles. Nearly every other seat had similar stains on it, nearly every seat back was still lose and badly fitted, carpets were fraying and the side panels looking very dirty.

And that's without mentioning the pretty disgusting in my opinion leather headrests.

The irony being that the Dynamic Lines HST I had on return last night looked newer and smarter than the actually newer GW finished one!

I just noticed today the the seat covers on the 387s are a much darker grey than shown in this picture. Maybe seeing how it wears before considering whether to replace it on the rest of the fleet?

153305 has been released from Long Marston and waiting return. Understand not in GWR Green but some people know what it is but keeping it to themselves. Wait for some surprise, I guess.

Why Long Marston of all places?

I'm sure I saw this one at Temple Meads today, but I didn't recognise anything special about it and so didn't photograph it as it wasn't on my list of needs... and now I can't even remember what colour it was in!

Maybe VivaRail is branching out!

Well, they both have things in common. They both operate unwanted and hated items of rolling stock that happen to both be DMUs (sort of!).

I don't hate the dogboxes personally!

Ginsters pasty livery? Seem to recall a 158 in those colours in the past.

Unfortunately the Ginsters 158s happen to end up in the Wales and Borders fleet after the Wales and West split up, which kept the Ginsters away from Cornwall. They were I think some of the first 158s to lose their ex W&W liveries and ended up in the drab version of ATW Turquoise.

Besides, after the states they got into id rather have eaten the Ginsters... and that's a compliment to the non Cornish Pasty!

Apparently to a certain source, 43194 is currently sat at Doncaster (no idea why) and is in GWR green... another power car in green maybe?

Can confirm, saw a picture on Facebook yesterday. Can't get it up for you though as I have now de-activated my account until Easter rolls around!

I suspect 194 was up there for refurb anyway, but a fifth powercar in green cements the idea of the HST GTi program...

Apparently to a certain source, 43194 is currently sat at Doncaster (no idea why) and is in GWR green... another power car in green maybe?

Well, it's a power car and it's in green, so...

I saw 166205 again this morning and it still carries its external silver first class stripes at both ends of the unit! The number of livery errors on the fairly small 166 fleet is extraordinary.

It is there for modifications to work with the sliding door conversions.

Nice to see the 08s on the list as many forget the heritage livery theme. 641 is really modified BR blue what with its grey roof and yellow cabside windows. Always reminds me of the original named class 33s !

Also in FGW Dynamic Lines is LA80 formed in 2015 (44083 42049 42356 42102 42095 42083 40718 41137).
With 4 car formations to run Cardiff-Taunton and/or Exeter-Penzance duties, 42093, 42168, 42177 and 44055 are at Doncaster and will be in green joining 43194 which arrived in Feb.

LA80 is the "scratch" set - it's only ever formed up when there is a general/planned shortage of sets, and is made up from whatever spare cars are available. Unlike the other HST sets, it doesn't have a planned formation.

Presumably formed up now to cover the 4 vehicles at Wabtec for conversion?
