166217 was looking very shiny parked in a siding at the west end of Reading depot this afternoon. Still needs the GWR vinyl bits adding on top of the paintwork before going back into service.

So eight 166s remain in plain blue? Seems strange they didn't paint the whole fleet in gwr livery as I. Am sure. The livery was decided on while units were still being painted in blue

As far as allocations are concerned it is counted as an ordinary 3 car 165, and so can appear on any 3xx diagram - any tendency for it to appear on Basingstokes is purely coincidental.

The old one was hardly audible

Possible bad news for you then. I was told at SPM that it's return to traffic is delayed due to it awaiting new seats! Fingers crossed for the same Grammer seats as per HSTs - Creating a ATW/ScotRail style refurbishment!

The new announcer has been on the Turbo fleet since September and frankly the old one was far better. They have recently turned the volume up on all the turbos, so you can at least hear it now.

the carpet looked good... grey with green lines closer together where the seats were and wider apart in the center strip... leather seats in first class too. Green and grey works well but the grey on the seats is too light hence the need to change it which they are doing


I was shocked the exterior door buttons were old style no need to change these then? mind you southern 455s are old style too...

This is a digression from the livery discussion, but to answer the point, the plan is still alive, but there is a problem with needing to use or overhang some land belonging to the adjacent builders' yard. NR very much want to close the crossing as it has to be staffed pretty much from start to end of service - a little shed has been built for the purpose. There's a similar arrangement at Betchworth.

Gomshall is the other location with a manned foot crossing, not Betchworth which has full barriers across the adjacent road level crossing.

GWR 150938 formed with the "good" coach involved in the Plymouth collision and 150238 has now been formed into this 3 Car Unit and is out and about today. On Severn Beach branch most of day then going to Warminster and Cardiff during evening.
