Compare and contrast the "GWR" launch with that of Network SouthEast in 1986. Then, the new image was kept totally under wraps until D-Day, whereas the GWR "soft launch" is diluting the impact it will make. I realise you've got to ensure that you utilise your fleet and you can't have trains sitting around in depots until launch day, but I would have thought it would have been much more sensible to have had trains re-painted over recent months which will remain part of the franchise to be out shopped in base green, with temporary FGW branding.

Then, overnight on launch day out come the vinyls and you have a number of trains in service in the new image.

Not quite - Selhurst depot famously accidentally left a freshly painted unit outside a few days before the unveiling... It was outside and visible for a good few hours before anyone realised...

Yep! I absolutely hate that moquette. Seen it recently in an awful state on Abellio Greater Anglia's 360s (ex - First Great Eastern), Northern 321s (ex - First ScotRail), Tower Transit buses in London (ex - First London) and First buses in Hong Kong (which aren't even part of FirstGroup any more).

I don't mind it too much - though I prefer the moquette in 185s and Scotrail trains.

No Twitter or cameraphones back then!

The more I see of it the less I like it further. Oh and Nice non GWR kettles in the beginning bit about IKBrunel. It even has LMS on the side!

I think that it is good that First in some way are going back to the heritage of the routes from London Paddington, not sure that I totally agree in the way that they are doing it. But everyone can a difference of a opinion..;)

...and ex-Southern Railway BR, in the clip showing Southampton's old Ocean Terminal (from the 50's?).

They are even heavily suggesting that they were responsible for rebuilding Reading Station too!!!
Maybe they should have added the Apollo Moon program for completeness.

Yes, it's simply First Great Western rebranded to GWR.

What an overly-grand concept video. IKB had little to do with the various other railways' trains shown in the first part. Also, Reading station is a Network Rail project and it's somewhat rich for FGW to appear to claim so much credit for it! The overall tone is that the west of England would be a shriveled husk without First Group!

Of course it's only railway enthusiasts who will notice - or indeed care - about what company's steam locomotives appear in a corporate promotional video...

Are FGW changing there name to get away from image problems? I'm not entirely sure why the change, what the difference will be?

Personally I would have preferred chocolate/cream. Also GWR will be a little out-of-place on lines such as Exmouth or Reading-Gatwick.

But, nitpicks aside, not a bad effort.

I like it, it has a classic yet modern feel, and is quite strong so I think the general public will quickly get to recognise it as a distinctive brand. The key will be whether they provide a top quality service along side it though!

Just imagine the class 166 or 165's in GWR green....;)

Chocolate and cream looks terrible on modern traction. It belongs in the past, or on heritage stock.

have any new pictures finally surfaced for the relaunch?

Pictures of what? There's not very much in the way of livery right now, but I saw a poster at Newton Abbot using the new brand.

Does anybody know if the station/train announcements will use 'GWR' or 'Great Western Railway'?

Is there any news on the GWR logo on trains? I heard it was going to be cast-metal from somewhere, but I'm unsure if that was ever even going to happen. :|

I know it sure would look very smart, maybe they should reuse the scrap metal from the Class 143s.

Is that not just a rumour based off GNER's? All the images I've seen have just shown a white logo.
