Is there a map of the GWR that shows what sections have had part of the OLE installed and which have had all the OLE installed?

None of it is fully wired west of Stockley.
There are a number of partially wired sections, notably between Burnham and Taplow, and between Tilehurst and Didcot.
But there is no completed wiring through any station yet (as of Monday anyway).
The power supply points are incomplete too.

My question was in the context of the last few posts on this thread. If the 387s are to enter service from May, where will they be maintained?

Fair enough then, my mistake.

I'll suggest their temporary home will be North Pole then, as that is what is showing in the ECS moves on May 16th:

5S06 here arriving Paddington P5:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C44180/2016/05/16/advanced

Continues as an ECS GW 5S06 to Hayes and Harlington,

and then 5S09 arrives in P14:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C46521/2016/05/16/advanced

and forms an outbound GW passenger service to Hayes as 2S09:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/C46513/2016/05/16/advanced

Looks like two units each way, each peak, so 8 moves per day at North Pole, here's the 24 hour listing:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/sea...16/05/16/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt

Many thanks, I did a quick trawl of RTT, but must have missed the ECS moves. So North Pole becoming operational is another thing I was unaware was happening in May.

That looks like it then! The 387's will be kept at North Pole for the meantime until next year I'm guessing, seems like a sensible decision. It's all ready for them, and the 800's, 801's and 802's.

Presumably the connection and electrification is still intact at North Pole towards the West London Line otherwise the 387s will have to be dragged via the un-electrified South West Sidings.

I don't know exactly what the score is with the WLL connections. I had heard the project thought were going to deliver them under their own power via the Poplar Lines from Acton Wells. That was until it was pointed out they were unwired........

It would be very good if someone could produce a map, and keep updating it on this thread as the work progresses. Not that I'm volunteering!

They were meant to be wired in either 2015/2016 along with the connection between Acton Wells and the WCML at Willesden No.7 Junction for freight diversions during Electric Spine electrification.

Wootton Bassett Junction to Bristol Parkway: December 2018
Reading to Newbury: December 2018
Bristol Parkway to Cardiff: December 2018
Didcot to Oxford: June 2019
Wootton Bassett Junction to Bristol Temple Meads: February 2019-April 2020

They're not confirmed dates, they're target dates.

They're a bit on the cautious side, if we get good weather and problems stop appearing, it might be possible to start some services earlier than indicated, similarly, if things go seriously wrong elsewhere, and we get more Goring type nonsense, we'll still be at various sections into CP6.

Here's a time lapse film of the replacement of half the bridge over the GWML on Cardiff Road, Newport.

http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/ne...ort_bridge_in_three_minute_video/?ref=mr&lp=4

This is the article that accompanies the film:

"VIDEO footage shows the vast scale of the work on a Newport bridge from the end of last year until February.

A Network Rail time-lapse film shows the part-demolition and reconstruction of the Cardiff Road Bridge. The largest telescopic crane in the UK was used during the works.

Engineers had to raise the bridge for new overhead wires as part of Network Rail’s electrification work on the South Wales Mainline.

Network Rail Wales’ programme manager Andrew Griffiths said: “The film demonstrates the scale of the project and the level of work involved.

We are delighted that we have been able to keep the road open to traffic and pedestrians, minimising disruption. We would like to thank the passengers and the local community for their patience while this essential upgrade work was completed."

He added: “Electrification will provide a bigger, better, more reliable railway for passengers and improve links from South Wales to major towns and cities, including London.”

Single lane traffic management remains in place on the bridge. It will stay there until the work is completed later this spring.

The Cardiff Road project makes up part of Network Rail’s work in Newport, which includes the Maesglas Road bridge and the Bridge Street bridge in the city centre.

A public information event will be held for residents about the electrification work at Maesglas Sports and Social Club on Maesglas Avenue in Newport on Wednesday, March 9 from 3pm until 7pm. No appointments are necessary."

Only half the bridge had to be replaced, as the other half is already high enough for the wires.

EDIT: I've just tried to view the film, but I get a message saying that the view has been aborted. I've tried to go on the web site separately, i.e. not via this link, and I get the same result. I don't know when it will be working again, but I hope that you'll be able to view it soon. Apologies!

I have tried to search the thread to no avail but has there been anymore on the Goring area issue the residents raised?

If there's a continuing problem it should be available on Network Rail's youtube channel directly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSvMHA93crE

Thanks, I assume from the arched bridge that was demolished, that this was the original South Wales Railway and that was the inadequate bit, whereas one assumes the line was doubled (thus now quadruple) and that the road bridge next to it, that was usable throughout this job thankfully, had been constructed later to make a dual carriageway.

I conclude that the original line, if to Brunel design, was not 'height generous'.

Apologies if I have missed the information but how does the wiring delay affect the move of HSTs to Scotrail?

Can't replace the HSTs without the replacement trains....

The delivery dates for the bi-mode IEPs, shown in the GW direct award franchise agreement, allow for the HST transfer to Scotrail with about a year to spare for modifications.

AFAICS there has never been any reasonable doubt about Scotrail getting their HSTs on time.

I was under the impression that not all the IEPs will be Bi Mode? Unless that'll be enough for the Scotrail cascade?

There are rumours of negotiations to convert some or all of the straight electrics in the order to bi-modes, to address the electrification delays.
