Great Northern train order

The slow lines via WGC are mainly 75mph maximum.
maybe 90mph would be useful for some services especially when routed on the fast lines when there is disruption.
The service I use in the mornings starts at Letchworth to Kings Cross via WGC this is currently a 313, fast from Stevenage to WGC. A bit more speed would help through the Welwyn section. That train used to be a 365 which generally arrived about a minute earlier at WGC (where it waits for a few minutes).

The maps are for what is expected (bar Kings Lynn) from May/June 2016 what the 700/717s will running by May 2018 when the maps will be updated (as Thameslink will be running the 20tph service then). London Bridge to Horsham/Littlehampton/East Grinstead are all expected to go over to 700 operation in the next 18 months (alongside the GN services).

They are due next year in service by May 2018 with full service by the December 2018 timetable change.

2018

The final part of the train improvement programme is to replace the trains that currently operate on the Welwyn Garden City and Hertford Inner Suburban services into Moorgate. The tender exercise is complete and we are working with Siemens, on the final design of the train. There will be 25 fixed formation six carriage trains (150 carriages replacing the current 132 carriages) providing much needed capacity on the line.

Features include: air conditioning, modern passenger information systems and 2x2 seating.

We expect these trains to start coming into service late spring of 2018, with the full train fleet in service by the end of that year.

I've not heard of any delay at all to the project. The production line will go straight from 707 to 717 build which should be building around 2 coaches a week (based on the four class 700 production lines building around 10 coaches a week) and is around half way through the 707 build right now (707008 was seen complete four or so months ago).

Don't confuse the simple fact that having all units in service in December 2018 is in service for 2019. The plan has always been for December 2018.
