I think I may have suggested this previously. Why not have the carriages painted in a national colour - maybe light blue - and all the different companies (or if a route needed to be differentiated for some reason (Gatwick Express?)), just have different colour doors. This will enable a corporate 'feel' for trains, and if stock is transferred betwen companies, only the doors need to be repainted. It also has the benefit of meeting the requirement for the location of doors to be highlighted.

Or just go back to something like; Intercity, Network Southeast and Regional Railways liveries ;)

Or as some others have mooted, a DB style of IC and Regional paint jobs... just with a Regional Name (Such as Southern) and "Operated by..." for the current management - a bit like Scotrail did after they went for a common paint job.

GBR route, which is just nationalisation with extra steps
I don't see how it is nationalisation - there are still going to be TOCs and ROSCOs - it's more like London Overground than BR surely?

Is it just me, or is something really wrong with it? Like my first reaction was 'that's hideous!'.
I can see what they are trying to do, replicate the look of the Union flag in the logo. But the irregularity of the flag (why so many accidentally fly it upside down), just looks so messy in these versions.

It's definitely chosen by Shapps, driven by the usual performative Brexit/Tory nonsense.

In, short, yes I agree the result is hideous!

I think they've tried to replicate the asymmetry of the Union Jack, and I think it just looks horrible here. It would be better symmetrical.

edit: @fat_boy_pete posted between me loading the page and posting

Horrendous. You can't improve on the original, but this lot on their zenohobic quest have just adulterated the double arrow.

Straight out of 1964:

https://www.creativereview.co.uk/british-rail-logo/ (contains a load of pictures including something looking rather like this)

Definitely the 't' from RA1.

Looks like RA2 to me

What’s wrong with the old BR Logo??? You know the double arrow that appears on every station even if its on a blue background (maybe that dark blue, with the double arrow in white?).
Exactly. The double arrow logo must be one of the most recognised symbols in the country. Leave it as it is.

Nothing is wrong with the BR double arrow. What I'm saying is that the whole logo (with the blue) was devised and trademarked by BR in the 1960s. I've linked to a document showing it above. I also think the "abstract" blue bit is decidedly 1990s in look - I was astonished when I originally found it was a 1960s design that BR didn't use in the end.

Edit: thanks @XAM2175 - looks like it was used for BR's international purposes, no doubt with the blue representing the Scottish part of the Union Flag but also the sea.

Suppose it saves a quid or three on design houses, but I'd still get Ray Stenning in to do a LM-a-like job on it, that was superb.

I’m just slightly surprised they haven’t rotated it through 90 degrees and claimed it represents better connectivity for the north
