I did make it very clear it was only a rumour.
What ive been told is thet network rail told GC when they were first allocated the paths that the paths would be available from Dec 06 to Dec 07 that but during winter 07, due to engineering works the paths would be subject to severe restriction south of Peterborough. Anyway the rumour is that Network Rail have suggested that the launch is deferred until March 08.

Out of interest have GC been paying for the paths that they havent been using?

Do GC drivers have route knowledge via Cambridge?

Correct,but we think they may relocate them.When we had the DRS stock and West Coast 47 you could tell when the train was about to arrive as the fans were cranked up in anticipation,never worked though,we still set the alarms off !!!

Class 171 operation at London Victoria was kiboshed as the vent fans (aligned for thumpers) didnt line up with Flymos (171s). How come HST operation is allowed at Sunderland if it trips the fire alarm?

Because the station is section 12, the fire alarm cannot be isolated even for a brief time. This could be a problem or maybe just a little extra work for the station staff.

As has been said, the alarm sensors are set up for DMUs, which even if they stopped against the signals at the very ends of the platforms, wouldnt set them off as the exhausts are far enough back from the signals. Of course, we will be right up against the signals...
IIRC they did turn it off the last time we were there, but they normally just said "THIS IS A TEST" over the PA system! (and positioned people by the doors!). If they relocate the sensors to the middle, it will cause problems every time a DMU comes in... They can't win really!!

As to the third PC, No idea, wnxx hasn't been updated since Friday...

You are correct about the alarms at s/land,they were'nt designed for "Proper Trains" the position of the alarms are adjacent to the colour light signal,142's,15x's etc do not stop adjacent to the "boards" hence when we've turned up with 47's etc we set them off,our drivers have been instructed to arrive and depart s/land(Im black an white,cant bring meself to say the word s........d)on notch 1,personally it should be FULL CLAG leaving the station !!!

Damn bloody straight. Not that I know the area (never been there), so I don't know if the track allows, but it ought to be N3 leaving, get the full set out and, PSRs allowing, N5 the moment the rear power car passes the PSR board/platform. N5 straight off the mark would be nice, but you've gotta think about the passengers I guess...:-P

As for arriving in N1, I should hope that's a notch on the brakes and not the power!

N1 is unfortunately the power and not the brake,suppose a sneaky N3 leaving the station might be good and the response when questioned about it "oops,silly me" !!!

Unfortunately it has to be N1 on arrival AND departure because of those damned alarms,however it wont apply elsewhere on the route so should be plenty of "clag" elswhere !!

Hehe I don't think you understand VXCFan's point, what he's saying that he would have thought that arriving at a station with power applied and not idling is rather unsual. Nice to know you'll be entertaining us elsewhere in the route though, will let you know when I'm planning on doing it, all I can say is hope you're driving .

Sir_Clag.....ummm I would hope that the GC PR Dept would be using a specialist photographer as opposed to a member of staff - I don't doubt that your camera is a good one, but ven so i would have thought tehy' want a team with lighting etc for tehewebsite pictures...

Both approaches to Sunderland have quite slow linespeeds so I guess a bit of power might be needed to get into the station without crawling to a halt.
