Just out of interest, do 08's have different couplers to HST, and hence the need for a barrier vehicle? If not, why the need for it?
And UHT is so achronistic and disgusting that it should never be used in a civilised country!
Do these MkIII have the dropdown window, or have they put an internal door handle on them?
Yes and no really. On a standard HST there is an emergency drawhook that enables you to connect any engine with a screw coupling. Mind, that is mainly for rescuing purposes.
On the GC stock theres a standard HST coupler on the van end and a drawhook and buffers on the nose end.
In theory you can couple the pilot up with no problem on the nose end, but you need a barrier vehicle to shunt the van end.
Saying that, you can obtain an attachment for te pilot that would enable it to connect to any standard power car,but as these are a mish mash with reagrds to couplers, its simpler this way.
Also,it was felt that if the attachment had been used, some of the curves in the depot would be too tight for pilot and powercar,as there was fears of uncoupling whilst shunting.
The other advantaqe of hiring in a pilot and barrier for GC is the ability use it on any other stock that might require shunting.

There are when I take some.
Other than that,I'm sure Bosch and Sir Clagalot will rattle a few off next time they are "on shed"
