Formations will be:
PC-TF-TF-TRSB-TS-TS-TS-PC
As far as I can recall, the guards brake will be a compartment on the buffet car.

Nearly right dave, the senior conductors "office" will be in the buffet car but as far as im aware it aint a brake van.The above formation is correct but at weekends there will be an extra TS hence the arrival of 08 pilot and barrier vehicle, but you knew that already didnt you dave, lol !;);)

Hey!! I'm from the Southern Region originally, everythings a guards brake to me,be it in the buffet car or in the disabled toilet!
Um,thats not actually why the pilot and barrier are there.

Just out of interest, do 08's have different couplers to HST, and hence the need for a barrier vehicle? If not, why the need for it?

And UHT is so achronistic and disgusting that it should never be used in a civilised country!
Do these MkIII have the dropdown window, or have they put an internal door handle on them?

Wouldn't the formation be PC-2xTF-TRSB-2xTS-TGS-PC as this would make more sense and be in line with every other HST set running on the network.

Also, I thought that was why Grand Central had 3 TGS's allocated to them along with the rest of the fleet.

They did have 3 TGS allocated to them but decided not to put them in the formation for some strange reason,GC poster maybe_idontknow posted way way back about turning them into a TGF in the future, pity as to be a "proper" HST it needs a TGS IMHO !! ;);)

Yes and no really. On a standard HST there is an emergency drawhook that enables you to connect any engine with a screw coupling. Mind, that is mainly for rescuing purposes.
On the GC stock theres a standard HST coupler on the van end and a drawhook and buffers on the nose end.
In theory you can couple the pilot up with no problem on the nose end, but you need a barrier vehicle to shunt the van end.
Saying that, you can obtain an attachment for te pilot that would enable it to connect to any standard power car,but as these are a mish mash with reagrds to couplers, its simpler this way.
Also,it was felt that if the attachment had been used, some of the curves in the depot would be too tight for pilot and powercar,as there was fears of uncoupling whilst shunting.

The other advantaqe of hiring in a pilot and barrier for GC is the ability use it on any other stock that might require shunting.

Are they any pictures of the MK3's for Grand Central Railway

There are when I take some.
Other than that,I'm sure Bosch and Sir Clagalot will rattle a few off next time they are "on shed"

I probably will fire off a 'few' photos next time I'm there... BUT we are NOT allowed to post them on fotopic / forums (including member's only forums)/ etc. (not sure if GC have said anything to Northern about their staff doing similar... But then they have been photographed on the loloaders and put on public websites such as wnxx.com and fotopic)

You still have to open the window to reach the door handle!!

The gold and silver doors do look classy, and it will look stunning when we have all the coaches and PCs in formation.

I know that Mr Yeowart was amazed that even before 43067 was delivered at Heaton,it had appeared on fotopic.
As if someones not going to take a photo. If its that secret, why not cover it over with tarp?

Besides, after allowing RAIL into the depot to take pics, its a bit of a moot point now.

diligentdave: True about photos, but I'm just doing as I'm told!! If they say I can post photos then I will decide whether or not to do so, but until that time...
I said long before they were delivered that someone would be sitting outside the gates of DML with a camera to be the first person outside of DML/GC(/Heanor) to see them and post them on a fotopic style website!

Pathfinder: yeah yeah, I know! We're getting there, 1 coach at a time! ;) :D

Which means that if they keep arriving at the current rate of at least 1 a week puts you well into next year before all sets are complete, sorry to say it clag,I've defended GC to the hilt but that aint acceptable is it really, looks like what jb95 posted is going to be correct, your new MD has said he doesnt like "spin" but even Alistair Campbell couldnt cover this one mate !:shock:

so if we get another standard this week, leaving one more standard and the buffet, along with a spare PC, making it two to three weeks before we have a complete set, enabling us to run the contingency timetable... OK, so the rest of the fleet *might* not be ready until the new year, but we will be running a service!
Have Faith my dear fellow, we WILL run a service! :)

I was going to say look at what diligent dave posted regards your contingent timetable but it appears moderator has removed it ! cant say I blame him,it did appear to me to be of a sensitive nature !! :)

I thought they were using HST powercars with MK3 coaches i.e.

PC-FO-FO-FR-TSO-TSO-TSO-PC or something silly.

This year hopefully!

plikma: Same thing! TF/FO are pretty much the same vehicle, except that the T indicates that is an HST Trailer, as opposed to a Loco Hauled FO. All the vehicles are Opens, with the exception of the Buffet, which is Unclassified.

Saw two of the power cars at Heaton today. One was out front and one was round the back. My friend spotted a third, apparently clagging.

Well, your friend would have been mistaken.
There are 2 pc's at the moment at Heaton, the next is due back end of this week, and then it will need OTMR fitment.
The buffet car is the last to be delivered, but that means there will not be a full set until the end of the month.
THEN,there will be a period were final work/touches will need to be applied before any test's,services can run.
In fear of speaking too much,I will leave it there, but like I have said before,I have a great deal to do with when GC will be running,so watch this space.

Ok, thanks, wasn't sure myself. Got an email from GC this morning saying they want an interim service up by november, and the full service in december.

Are GC actually allowed to run trains terminating at York? I'd have thought that given that their licence was approved on the ground of offering through services that were not met by other operators (ie to Sunderland). The holder of the East Coast franchise would be well with in their rights to complain to ORR/ DFT if they then start operating competing services from London to York only.

I see where you're coming from on that one Paul, but there is the actual fact that no-one runs any service trains currently London-York terminating,so GC wouldn't be treading on too many more toes.

But the GNER case was based on fare extraction at York. GC's case was partly built on the fact that this market would only be a small portion of their farebox income, since most passengers would be North East Coast / teesside to York or London. Running York-London only would lead to GC's entire farebox for a period being based on extraction from GNER/NXEC, since that route is already well served, and it could not be claimed that they were opening up a new market.

I would imagine that the ICEC operator would want reassurances that it would be a short term measure only.
