I think the question is more "Do you have to wait for ages at Sunderland for a Northern train to Newcastle?" as I was told that the ONLY tickets accepted on the Metro are Newcastle to Sunderland tickets, anything else (e.g. Newcastle to somewhere else, or Sunderland to somewhere else) is not accepted, however I can't find the rules documented anywhere.

I've done the metro and been gripped travelling between Newcastle and Sunderland on a Leeds to Sunderland ticket.

The trainline will sell me a Littlehampton to Sunderland Saver with journey details going via Newcastle central (metro) on a train to sunderland provided by "unknown provider"so thats what i will probably do. out via Gc back on nex

I agree. It was a risky livery that could have gone so horribly wrong, but they've made it look fantastic, dynamic and bold.

those front ends and the small logo look stupid. Apart from that, its quite 'classy'

Perhaps the more important question for me actually relates to the advertised £69 GC deal. Does it also come with RCD discount and child fares? The latter I query because a good friend of mine wishes to do GC but still qualifies for child fares.

The GC fare does not give railcard discount - dunno about child fare.... - I'd suggest a FAM though!

As to your first question, yes, a KGX - NCL YPR will be valid on GC, if it isn't they're breaking ATOC rules!

GC have made a bit of a mistake with their pricing, IMO, as they have priced the Sunderland-London GC only saver at £6.10 MORE than the cost of the Any Permitted saver, for railcard holders. That means that anyone who holds a railcard is going to purchase the Any Permitted ticket, and as a result NatEx will get the majority of the income from all railcard holders travelling on GC (thanks to ORCATS). I think this must have been an oversight by whoever set the prices!

A way round it would be to offer, say, 15% discount to railcard holders, putting the fare at £58.65 which may just be enough of a discount to tempt people to go for the GC-only fare. This would give GC £58.65 of revenue from railcard discounted tickets rather than the much smaller amount they will recieve if railcard holders are only given discounts on the Any Permitted fares. If they do not do this, then it's GC's loss.

In fact I'm not entirely sure whether GC are entitled to any share of railcard tickets under ORCATs, Railcards are a TOC product and there doesnt seem to be any compulsory agreement either for GC to accept them or for ATOC to pay GC if they do!

The metro fare is a maximum £2.70 from memory anyway, so hardly bank breaking.

43068 I forgot about earlier, which I class as a temporary blip in my memory following an argument with Sproghetti elsewhere. As for 123, I wasn't sure about that one so I left it out in case it wasn't a GC one and I got egg on my face.

Require all by 068 for a line in the book, so it'll be lots of tripping around on the ECML!

As for the fares, that is a huge overlook by the people in high places. As yorkie says, if Y-P holders can get discount on the Any Permitted fare then they will almost certainly go for it. £58.65 is a lot better than £69!

Can you let them know the figures I have calculated? I just think there may be an oversight and they may not realise that they are potentially going to lose revenue from every railcard holder who travels on their services.

RAIL last month listed the formations they would be in and 080 is paired with 067,065 with 084 and finally 068 with 123,so looking at that you can see this is the order they are arriving at heaton,065 is here so just waiting for 068 and 123 !!
