Theres potential for stops at Easington, Horden, Blackhall and Hart, possibly even Crimdon in summer but I think these are best served by train and have backing for reopening from local community groups and MP's but northern are not interested at all for some reason.....:cry:

The old incline from Seaham Colliery to the Harbour? Yes but the the only way to access that without relocating Seaham Station and demolishing a load of properties would be to go past the station, then back up the bank before setting off down to the harbour! Also, I believe the headroom under some of the bridges would be a problem, along with the car parks at the bottom!

I know that people want a station at Horden for Peterlee, and I personally think that the Durham coast could support a half hourly service to/from Newcastle. On the hour to Darlington via the Coast, and on the half hour (as now) to Middlesbrough via the Coast. IMHO it would relieve some of the overcrowding on some of the services along there.

Hmm, well my GC bash for August has gone out of the window!

I am the lucky holder of a New Deal card, entitling me to 50% off Standard Class tickets (excluding rovers and Advance fares). A few weeks ago I looked up a GC trip using said card and sure enough, London to Sunderland and back was £18 each way with GC. A bargain for sure!

Looking tonight, said fares have disappeared and I am confronted with an Anytime Senior Return at £50 and something pence as the lowest return fare between London and Sunderland, which I'm obviously not entitled to!

Any ideas on this folks? I'd love to have a full run to Sunderland and back, rather than a couple of short hops like I've done thus far (well, excluding York to Cambridge and back that is!), not to mention it being over four months since my last Valenta bash. Never managed more than four and a half months before without getting on a HST with at least one Valenta on it! Hence my desperation to do a GC bash!

£36 is a lot better than £55 for a Super Off Peak Return with NXEC!

Crimdon is a little coastal gem ! I have family in the North East they took me there as an alternative to Saltburn. A lovely coastal walk and well worth the visit !

Isn't it meant to be used for job seeking (but not actually compulsory)? ;) I wasn't aware that GC accepted New Deal but according to Avantix they do, so it's £18 each way for a SVS or £35.50 SVR. Good luck job hunting in Sunderland ;)

The £52.50 ticket is priced by NXEC but valid on any TOC, including 'one' out of Liverpool Street and EMT from St Pancras.

There a big Barclays call centre taking on there at the moment. I used to work there but I wouldn't recommend it:|

I see that the launch date for Grand Union services has been delayed, not a massive surprise!

Hundreds of new ones at the Nissan plant - one of the few factories in the UK taking people on

As for the livery, I really like that. I'm not a masive fan of "open access" operators, but that colour schem works really well - not to far from the GNER effect (coincidence?) - the only minor criticism is that I think the orange band should taper at each end - that's the best looking 180 I've seen though. Shame they don't stop at Doncaster or Retford or I'd use them

The ticket is not valid for GC only tickets according to the FRPP:

Oh yeah, I forgot about the large Royal Mail Sorting Office being a obvious clue seeing as the line runs along the back of it, :oops:

I should have known better especially as it's my backyard, "slaps head"!

Maybe when I looked the £18 singles is what I was seeing but as glynn80 says as it's not valid, it could well be that they'd noticed that after I first looked and removed them.

Never mind, the same money I was going to use on the GC bash I am now using on the Newquay bash instead. Won't get to get any Valentas in, but hey ho!

Looked at a photo linked to on the WNXX forum earlier of 180112 in the new livery, I can't say I like it. Maybe it'll be better in the flesh but I ain't a fan of it on 180s. On HSTs it works well but there we go!

The projected start date for Grand Northern services (which will not now be called Grand Northern) is December, but William states that there's a delay, where has that info come from? is it due to a rolling stock issue? is 5 months not enough time to get the 180s ready to start?

trip finished, no problems whatsoever, train performed faultlessly, see my youtube site later today for vids of the naming ceremony.
