I'll be on them all day Sunday if they're running by then. The first one on Sunday should be 1047 but I would guess it will have to wait until the 0900 NXEC from KGX so it may depart at more like 1110.

Trundling around empty again at the moment - came down to York (Holgate) and headed back north via the freight lines at 10.17. (Roughly in path of 10.14 York-Sunderland?)

What's the point of it running empty when it would seem from quite a few people that it won't run in passenger service at all. Seems like a lot of hassle for something which may only last a few of days.

Oh it's perfectly normal. The railways in the UK make complete and total sense. Yesterday I asked for a taxi for the next couple of days. Today it turned up, the driver refused to unlock the doors and said it was a timing run. The taxi then departed. I then had to get 2 seperate taxis to get to my destination and was very late. I'm told that if the timing run is a success, the taxi will let me on tomorrow, but it may be a few more days before I can get on it. Very sensible of them, because if the timing run ends up a couple of minutes late, it would not be a good idea to run it. Now excuse me while I watch some safety videos in the wonderful world of rules, regulations, risk assessments, safety cases and other such delights, without which I think we'd all die of a disease called 'common sense', and we wouldn't want that would we?

;)

Just because they sound hellfire, doesn't mean they are in good knick ;) in fact, usually means the opposite!

I agree with JsT, it seems odd. But this is GC so anything is possible!!! ;)

47s will be cheaper because there are loads of them owned by mickey mouse companies. EWS charge more than those companies.

Given GC's history of picking extremely cheap and, apparently unprofessional, companies in the refurbishment of their HSTs, it would not surprise me if 47s were used instead of 37s. :(

Wasn't the shoddy refurb due to GC not actually paying the bill

Didn't see any problems with DMLs refurb for the Rio PCs!

DML did a crap job on the power cars full stop. As suggested on WNXX, this could be that DML won't be doing anymore, so they might have not been too bothered.

When the Rio power cars were done, there was still quite a few power cars going through, so it would have been in there own interest to do a good job.

CR/Advenza won't get the contract for 2 reasons. First of all, they don't have any eh 47s spare, and there is the small matter concerning their passenger license. Apparently, they don't have one anymore .....

Would be odd to use them as EWS have the contract to provide spot hire.

...ever heard of the EWS/Riviera Charter Alliance?

The situation changes so fast it's probably best just to wait and see what happens...

Oh and a final thought for the evening. Why have GC not kicked off at DML about the shoddy standard of work performed on the PC's? If I had bought a 30 year old car and had paid for it to be refurbished to a high standard but that work hadn't been carried out, I'd be straight onto the company that did it, or failing that trading standards...unless of course the work I specified was not of a high enough standard to ensure reliable operating. It speaks volumes about the amount of work originally specified (by GC/Sovereign Trains) that appropriate action has not been taken against DML who have apparently done such a "crap job"...maybe they were only doing what they were paid (or eventually paid) to do.

So, did the 37s not perform acceptably in the timing run then?

Seems odd as they ran almost perfectly in the path of the 1730 ex-SUN from what I heard/saw.

Surely they won't have done timing runs for no reason...

Someone posted that 67 timing runs will begin soon - but that's blatantly false* given that they ran 67s several times already so they know they keep to time north of York!

(* or an example of how ludicrous the railway is!)

I was told that they were deemed too unreliable, even though GC Powercars were blowing up left, right and centre and they continued on

But they didn't fail on the timing runs.

"Let's do a timing run"
"OK"... "Yep, they kept to time, they were a success"
"Oh, well nevermind, we think they are too unreliable anyway"

What the hell was the point in that then?!

The railway system we have now is so obscenely wasteful, bureaucratic, and illogical that nothing really surprises me any more.

BTW, Liam, I would not suggest that GC have not paid the bill. Do you have proof? I am not confirming or denying if they have paid the bill or not, but it could be considered libel to suggest they haven't. And wouldn't it be Sovereign trains who'd get the bill anyway?

Can I just say, that The Marauder said he knows nothing of CR losing their passenger license, now he is a genuine and honest man, even if he does like to wind that lot on WNXX up (for those not in the know, The Marauder is an Advenza driver)

Secondly, 47818 and 47828 are available, leaving 47813 to be Anglia Thunderbird. And 47810 should be better soon, so they have got ETH locos available.

However, I think it is more likely that WCRC or Riviera will get the contract, and as EWS are supplying the locos, Riviera seems favourite to me.

Whilst what you said may be slightly true, do you want to be in a country without Valenta's?

It's just that the way things are going, they may become extinct before my next post on Rail UK... ;)

Most likely to but well we have got XC Valenta's and well EMT's arnt MTU and the NMT still squeals on by.

I must point out that if Fgw didnt go for the MTU's us midland folk wouldn't have had power car moves  (btw the official last one was yesterday)

Cotswold are a complete cowboy outfit. Even FM managed actually submit specs for railtours to Network Rail before advertising and taking monies off punters.... Cotswold also had the great idea to paint locos they hadn't paid for the hire of

Still they have lots of headboards so thats all ok then.................
