Praying they make it out on Sunday
I'll be on them all day Sunday if they're running by then. The first one on Sunday should be 1047 but I would guess it will have to wait until the 0900 NXEC from KGX so it may depart at more like 1110.
Oh it's perfectly normal. The railways in the UK make complete and total sense. Yesterday I asked for a taxi for the next couple of days. Today it turned up, the driver refused to unlock the doors and said it was a timing run. The taxi then departed. I then had to get 2 seperate taxis to get to my destination and was very late. I'm told that if the timing run is a success, the taxi will let me on tomorrow, but it may be a few more days before I can get on it. Very sensible of them, because if the timing run ends up a couple of minutes late, it would not be a good idea to run it. Now excuse me while I watch some safety videos in the wonderful world of rules, regulations, risk assessments, safety cases and other such delights, without which I think we'd all die of a disease called 'common sense', and we wouldn't want that would we?What's the point of it running empty when it would seem from quite a few people that it won't run in passenger service at all. Seems like a lot of hassle for something which may only last a few of days.
Was told yesterday night that it would start Sun or Mon with 47's.
No more proper than Valentas though!!!Ahh proper traction then. Shame I'm not close enough to see it.

But where are they going to get the 47's from?
What is wrong with the 37's, from what i saw last night, they sounded hellfire leaving York plat 5!!!
Riviera have a few spare, as do WCRC and to some extent CR.
I agree with JsT, it seems odd. But this is GC so anything is possible!!!
47s will be cheaper because there are loads of them owned by mickey mouse companies. EWS charge more than those companies.
Given GC's history of picking extremely cheap and, apparently unprofessional, companies in the refurbishment of their HSTs, it would not surprise me if 47s were used instead of 37s.![]()

Wasn't the shoddy refurb due to GC not actually paying the bill
Didn't see any problems with DMLs refurb for the Rio PCs!
Would be odd to use them as EWS have the contract to provide spot hire.
So, did the 37s not perform acceptably in the timing run then?
But they didn't fail on the timing runs.I was told that they were deemed too unreliable, even though GC Powercars were blowing up left, right and centre and they continued on
But they didn't fail on the timing runs.
"Let's do a timing run"
"OK"... "Yep, they kept to time, they were a success"
"Oh, well nevermind, we think they are too unreliable anyway"
What the hell was the point in that then?!
The railway system we have now is so obscenely wasteful, bureaucratic, and illogical that nothing really surprises me any more.I don't know! But does it suprise you today?
CR/Advenza won't get the contract for 2 reasons. First of all, they don't have any eh 47s spare, and there is the small matter concerning their passenger license. Apparently, they don't have one anymore .....
Whilst what you said may be slightly true, do you want to be in a country without Valenta's?
It's just that the way things are going, they may become extinct before my next post on Rail UK...![]()
Can I just say, that The Marauder said he knows nothing of CR losing their passenger license, now he is a genuine and honest man, even if he does like to wind that lot on WNXX up (for those not in the know, The Marauder is an Advenza driver)
Secondly, 47818 and 47828 are available, leaving 47813 to be Anglia Thunderbird. And 47810 should be better soon, so they have got ETH locos available.
