Folks, enjoyed reading all comments so far!! Regarding my situation, it would appear the majority dissaprove of my families actions in relation to entering FC carriage. Its obviously a Forum for all to discuss and i respect all the opinions made.

I do however disagree with the majority and again think its a major overeaction. Regarding the comments made, i think its a bit rich for people to lay it on thick, questioning my integrity. I am positive that all those "Rail angels" who have commented have broken some sort of law themselves, even if minor!

I was however, interested on the forum's comments regarding people standing on the aisles due to Standard Class being full. Whats the problem if the FC carriage is empty, allowing these people to sit within? If i was in FC and i observed various people standing on the aisles, and they entered FC to have a seat, i certainly wouldnt be bothered. Its makes no difference to me because I paid for a FC seat and had a FC seat.

There is too much snobbery involved and there should be more common sense. Any decent person wouldnt object to someone purchasing a SC ticket unable to sit due to overcrowding, then enter FC to get a seat, (if there were seats available) especially if it was a lengthy journey and it isnt their fault the train was overcrowded.

Obviously, that wasnt my situation however two packets of Ready Salted crisps, two cans of juice and a bigger seat x 2, isnt the grounds for being sent to Prison by the forum police!!!

If you want to sit in First Class, buy a first class ticket. If you buy a Standard Class ticket and the train looks too full, then either wait for the next train, or resign yourself to standing. It's all down to personal choice.

I spend my time coming out of London on evening trains (and going in on morning trains) listening to passengers going too and from Reading whinging about being told to move from the First Class vestibules and corridors (not to mention seats) as "the train is crowded, I have nowehere to move to". These trains invariably have empty seats at the front (even during disruption), I can count on one hand the number of peak-time trains I have worked in the past year that did not have seats in Coach A.

The "I have to sit in 1st" argument does not cut ANY ice with me at this stage, unless there is a demonstrable reason the passenger needs a seat, or I have declassified 1st due to major disruption.

The last person who tried to argue the train was a H&S risk (80 empty seats, but at the "wrong" end of the train) was most put-out when I told her I'd have the train stopped at Slough and 100 people removed, who were the other 99 going to be, as she would obviously want to be first off.

Because they didn't pay for a bleeding first class ticket!! What is so difficult to understand?!! When you pay a lower fare you are knowingly taking the risk that there is less chance of a seat for you. Simple as that!

But it's their fault they didn't buy a first class ticket, in which case they'd be entitled to take a seat.

Lawman, there's no problem with allowing a free upgrade in such circumstances if you've actually spoken to the traincrew and asked very nicely if you can sit there. See the conditions of carriage! Just taking it upon yourself on the other hand is a tad naughty and might see you in as much trouble as my friend from today will find himself in shortly!

So Striker, your telling me if, for example, you see an old Granny Biggins, 85 years old, just had a hip replacement and had a walking stick, on the SC carriage going to visit her sister. No seats, not her fault, and she is standing on the aisles. Plenty seats available on FC, your telling me that you would be annoyed if she came and sat down in FC.. so she is therefore a "criminal" seriously!!!!!!

and you will find what i did do was correct, i had a FC ticket, it was two members of my family that hadnt!

Obviously, at the time the family members came through, no Virgin Crew members had made an issue of it. We genuinely didnt think it was such a "crime" for them to be there! I can understand how other people would take advantage however, our situation was not that at all!!!!

Correct. A seat which your family didn't pay for, so had no entitlement to use.

The "nobody else was using it, so it was okay to..." argument is bogus and you know it.

Out of interest, if you went to the Theatre and paid for a ticket in the stalls, noticed the Royal Box was empty would it be okay to sit there instead?

Yes it is public transport, which is why I pay more to have a better chance of getting some peace and quiet.

Why are you taking it to the extreme to try and prove a point? Of course I wouldn't have a problem in that EXTREME case, but then thankfully second class isn't full to the brim with frail old ladies is it?

+1. You cannot compare your friends, who came into first class, and took up first class offers knowingley, in the mind that they didn't have the correct tickets, to a vulnerbale person in an extremely complex position, I would assume no-one would have a problem witht the latter, but they would have a problem with the former.

Standard class ticket = standard class ticket.
First Class seat = first class seat.

Personally, I don't understand this point of view. I mean surely, if you'd just payed £300 for something, and some has wrongly got the same thing for £13, you'd be a bit annoyed?

I think most decent people know this. I'm just amazed people are still arguing you should be allowed to sit in first class without a first class ticket!

I got what i had paid for, really its none of my business what other people paid for their ticket so no i probably wouldnt be annoyed as thats life!!!

So if you paid £300 for a ticket and someone else paid £13 for the same thing, when they shouldn't get it, you'd be perfectly happy? This thread ceases to amaze me.
