The living wage in the NE is roughly £9.50 which although is a 50p ish increase has obvious effects on profits. I note GNE has introduced a whole raft of cheaper fares and offers to entice folk back onto buses. £1 after 7pm etc.

I don’t believe that Newcastle or Gateshead councils are entirely helpful to bus operators with their bizarre traffic policies. Newcastle has been a nightmare since the one way system around Central was introduced and Gateshead changes to Askew Rd around the town centre has caused severe tailbacks on bus artery routes from the South and East of Gateshead. The poor souls in Tesco Gateshead are being stuck there for upwards of 3 hours.

I think 6112 was probably broken down and towed to Cramlington for some reason. Probably not for scrap!

I believe 6112 was involved in a RTC in the Battle Hill area on Sunday.

Oh right, I didn’t realise vehicles like buses in accidents were towed to scrapyards I thought be nearest depot?

It usually is to the main depot but if they are not worth repairing they get scrapped.

I don't think the bus is damaged - it involved a pedestrian so I'm not sure if the police have seized the vehicle or something along those lines.

I'm not sure on the exact process of what would happen in a situation like this.

I can understand it being taken away to another area for it to be investigated.

That might well be the case - the driver was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Woman fighting for life after collision with a bus in Wallsend​

An 83-year-old woman is fighting for life after she was involved in a collision with a bus.

The incident happened at around 6pm on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "For reasons yet to established, a pedestrian had been involved in a collision with a bus on Battle Hill Drive in Wallsend near to the junction with Russell Close."

Officers from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department attended the scene alongside emergency services, and the 83 year-old female pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The bus driver, a 47-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody at this time.

Inspector Paul Allen from the Force’s Motor Patrols department said: "This is a serious collision that has left a lady fighting for her life in hospital.

A 63 plate wouldn't usually get scrapped unless it was very extensively damaged.

I heard a rumour Hedingham would receive some, which I'd disagree with...would be more logical for GNE to gain them, sending Omnidekkas to Hedingham replacing the Presidents (keeping common types at both ops), but that's if its true

I believe all OmniDekkas at GNE are off front line service now and just work schools or reserve, so no need to replace them really

Perhaps on paper, but at least 4-5 are in service into Newcastle daily, most commonly on the 21/X21, X1 and 309/310/311 services.

Yes, when I was in Newcastle there were still a few out, even on the Saturday. Mind you, there might not be many needed since the September route changes.

There are rumours circulating on another forum that there will be quite a major U turn backing out some improvements made this year on X Lines services X9/X10 to Middlesbrough and X84/X85 to Hexham

X9 withdrawn (it’s already suspended due to the driver shortage)
X85 withdrawn with the X84 downgraded to be a normal bus service renumbered 684
Former Oxford Interdeck coaches withdrawn
E400MMCs currently on the X84/X85 moved to operate the X10

It might have been better for the X84 and X85 if these two services and the 685 didn’t all leave Hexham within 6 minutes of each other every hour. Having said that I took an early evening X84 into Newcastle and it was quite busy.

I fear 2022 may see some significant cuts in commercial services in many areas.

I drove a former Oxford Volvo B12B Plaxton which was 12 years old at the time for an operator on a school contract and that had almost 1m on the clock by that stage. The cab looked like it'd travelled that distance too.

I can believe it. Our B9 Levantes that we used on National Express work now have over 1 million km on the clock and feel it.
