The living wage in the NE is roughly £9.50 which although is a 50p ish increase has obvious effects on profits. I note GNE has introduced a whole raft of cheaper fares and offers to entice folk back onto buses. £1 after 7pm etc.
I don’t believe that Newcastle or Gateshead councils are entirely helpful to bus operators with their bizarre traffic policies. Newcastle has been a nightmare since the one way system around Central was introduced and Gateshead changes to Askew Rd around the town centre has caused severe tailbacks on bus artery routes from the South and East of Gateshead. The poor souls in Tesco Gateshead are being stuck there for upwards of 3 hours.
