The 7/7A timetables for the Spring half-term week are now on Traveline.


Looks like the service is only operating on the two weekends either side of half term, but not on the bank holiday.

Four return journeys between St Ives and Land's End and two each on the legs to and from Penzance (reduced to one on the leg to/from Lands End on Sundays).

No through journeys are shown even though the same bus will be used in some cases - that of course enables two fares to be charged as per routes 2 and 3.

The Penzance - Land's End leg runs direct via Drift with a journey time of 30 minutes.

Judging by loadings around Penzance last Saturday if they don't enhance services for the summer there's going to be problems.

Service changes will also give Go Cornwall an opportunity to replace the departures posters at Penzance bus station, which are so riddled with omissions and errors they are best ignored.

A shame it's cancelled but never saw more than 3 or 4 people on it.

Probably doesn't help that it never appeared in the timetable book or on maps either and its launch back in November was barely mentioned by GCB. Unfortunately in keeping with their lack of interest in any sort of marketing and promotion.

Their excuse for not including the service in the timetable book was that they'd already decided to withdraw it in April. I guess that decision was made before the decision to restart the summer 7/7A from May, plus presumably the council only agreed to subsidise it until April.

A bus company boss said he was "regretful" about moving a bus stop out of the middle of a village, but has insisted it was the only option.
The Mousehole harbour bus stop has been relocated by bus operator Go Cornwall Bus after 90 years. It means residents now have to tackle a steep hill before catching the bus.
Villagers pleaded with Cornwall Council to step in to save the bus stop in March but officials said the service was reliant on "balancing revenue generation with ongoing operating costs".
The managing director of Go Cornwall Bus Richard Stevens said the company had no choice but to move the stop as it had to use bigger buses on the route.
He said: "I have small vehicles in my fleet, they don't have enough capacity to carry the current patronage on the route, so that it isn't a workable solution - that's the truth.
"For the people who who now can't catch the bus in Mousehole - I am regretful, but I am making the best provision of service that I can in the circumstances."

Stevens said the bus route now turned at The Old Coastguard, which meant it didn't have to "navigate into the town or into the village to get to the harbour".
He said: "From my point of view, the service is operating very well - from the people who live in Mousehole, it's less than satisfactory.
"It's fair to say I'm not a popular person in Mousehole, although I am a popular person in Newlyn, which is great."

In my opinion it's like a middle finger to Mousehole.

I can see both points of view, while the service has to be viable and has to have the capacity for the route I can understand people's disappointment. Would a workable compromise be to run a small bus from Mousehole to Newlyn to connect with a bigger bus?

Then there would be thousands of complaints about people having to change buses when they've had a through service for since time immemorial, and outrage to the moon and back any time a connection was missed.

Also still questionable whether minibuses would have enough capacity unless they restore a 20 minute frequency, which would reduce the viability of the service.

Yes, that bit rather stuck out for me too, not least after how he came across in the ITV interview earlier this year (somewhat dismissive and arrogant for those who hadn’t seen it), particularly when he sighted it was safer to reverse a decker around a steep blind corner by Coastguards than send a small bus into Mousehole Village (I know the residents still aren’t happy and have seen a few close calls and gouges into the tarmac).

It’s all very well saying you’re now more popular in Newlyn due to the bigger buses, but it still remains at a cost of the frequency reduction imposed by the withdrawal of First and merging of routes. The Mousehole or 6 always seemed to do rather well on its own and the residents, when I used it, often seemed to prefer to wait for the bigger vehicles on the 1 etc than clog up the Sprinter.

Would the answer be to extend a bus, which currently terminates in Penzanze, to Newlyn (such as the 2 or 17, don't know which are hourly or have turnaround time), and have a small Sprinter type bus just running Mousehole to Penzanze?

Or run an hourly service to Paul via Newlyn (1 PVR) and call it the 5/5A... That would ensure that passengers to/from Paul, Sheffield and Gwavas are not crowded off in the summer, which they're going to be otherwise.

Yes at 55 minutes past the hour to Sheffield then direct back to Penzance.

Journeys are also affordable, capped at a maximum of £3 per way.
In Cornwall, the Newquay night bus is making a comeback with some route changes, and a new service will be available in Perranporth. Both are being delivered by new provider Go Cornwall for 16 weeks from Saturday, May 23, to Saturday, September 5.
Last year the Newquay bus ran for 14 weeks and was used by 745 passengers – an average of 53 per night.

So, today is the first day of the 7/7A between Land's End and St Ives. Not that you'd know it from the website and app. To make things even worse if you select a random date next week it displays the Sennen - St Just timetable which was withdrawn without notice last month.

Hopeless!

Still no sign of any summer uplift that people were suggesting might happen. The 17 is still hourly this half term week, and often seems to be run by single deckers, due to how Go Cornwall interwork every possible service together.

I'm told from an unverified source that if any summer uplift happens it'll only be for the six-week school holiday period. Meanwhile, in Devon Stagecoach have introduced their summer uplifts from this weekend.

In respect of the 17 I'd advise people where possible to catch the train instead. Even with the change at St Erth it's around the same journey time, double the frequency and a return ticket from Penzance to St Ives is only 30p more than the bus fare without a railcard.

This made me laugh, they can't even get their routes right! 86 Is Truro-Perranporth via none of those! This was at Truro Bus Station.
