it's a small shame to not have it included but I agree the benefits are largely enthusiasts and some cases of showing delays on subsequent trips
It only really works if you're boarding early on in a journey but that's where some intervention is more likely. For anyone boarding anywhere else, they'll only look closer to the time where that step-up is now tracking instead. Otherwise, the main audience for such a tool is the enthusiast fraternity, looking to see what journeys a bus is (hopefully) going to operate.

I'd rather just have the ability to look ahead really. That's what I'm bothered about if I'm heading somewhere new!
I still think the situation whereby you are leaving from a (city-centre, for example) terminus, or one or two stops out from such a terminus, you're waiting in the cold and your bus is late, and you'd like to to know where the incoming vehicle likely to form your outbound journey is, is something genuinely useful and I speak as a passenger, not just as an enthusiast. I've been in this situation myself more than once.

OK, it's not going to be right 100% of the time, but 9 out of 10 times it probably is based on my observations of how rigidly vehicles stick to a working (I'd say they stick to intended workings about 90% of the time, i.e. deviate perhaps once every two weeks, and this is a city-centre location where interworking is quite extensive).

However I appreciate the difficulties in obtaining block info and accept that automated analysis of live bus running data may be required to derive it independently.

Only an enthusiast (even as a passenger) is going to consider that. To say it’s a niche consideration is still massively overstating it.

I’m new here so I’ll just say a few things
In relation to the comment about London fleet being old and knackered i have driven a lot of ex London stock and when Go Cornwall started I drove old London stock here in Cornwall and have to say that it is so well maintained because of London's TFL requirements that they all drove exactly like new and you couldn’t tell much difference between the brand new 70 plates and the ex London e400’s apart from the drivers cab which was fairly grim but Go Cornwalls fleet is kept clean by Cormac/Corserv and they do an exceptional job they have kept the fleet very clean all the new buses we had in 2020 look great inside and the outer bodywork is better than it was at the start red gaffer tape no more?!

As for the new timetables and all of the mistakes uploading etc there is a guy in this company renowned for making a mess of every job he does lovely guy but should never have been an depot manager let alone afterwards moving to scheduling and having the entire network at his hands this really could be go Cornwall’s down fall he’s that bad I won’t drop his name out of respect all I’ll say is he used to work for stagecoach.

As for the B9TL’s I’m surprised because I was told that they wanted to keep the GSW fleet all ADL so I imagine these will stay in Penzance/Camborne mainly as maybe this engineering team from First Will be more aware and experienced in them plus it’s nice to see we will still have Volvos around but overall massive decline in fleet age for Cornwall it’s like found backwards.

And I heard from a driver for flix that flix and truronian are definitely staying put so first Will technically still be in Cornwall also he said Stagecoach are buying Summercourt for a coach company or under a coach company so they are definitely moving in and maybe imo they will take over the Truro park and ride although I wouldn’t be surprised if hopleys or another local independent would run it or maybe even truronian.
Apologies for the essay

I am surprised I have to admit. At the very least I'd expect people to be interested in how late their journey is likely to be, based on how late the incoming journey is running. You're waiting at a city centre stop, your bus hasn't shown up on time, you've been waiting 10 mins, the headway is half-hourly - but the data can tell you that the vehicle which normally forms it is on the way into the city and some 5 minutes away. Surely that would be useful?

I'm not expecting the bus companies to invest a lot of time and money into providing this, by the way - just pointing out that it isn't useless info.

First bus internal memo regarding park and ride staff suggested go cornwall had won the p & r work (was relative to tupe arrangements) and it would be public news the day following. That was last week. I noticed on a truronian coach today that was covering a flix route, the legal lettering was a bristol address , not sure if these used to be camborne.

Most people don’t know about BusTimes and have very little knowledge about how bus operations work in terms of interworking. That’s the reality, rather than the world of this forum.

Moreover, it’s not an exact science so in some instances, a vehicle working inbound being late may be swapped out anyway.

More info on changes from 15 February.
So is the competitive anti-First 41 continuing? There is no mention of it changing on this TfC web page. The other competitive services, 32 and 86 are noted as being altered to replace First services. I did predict the OTS 33 being renumbered - it is to be the 36B - a service I remember as one of the first homes of Metropolitans in London.... I digress!

On the debate on blocks showing on BusTimes, for years now I have frequently looked at my chosen service on an earlier day (or several) and identified what journey the bus does before mine (if not obvious) so that I can look out if it is running late. No way is this 100% accurate but it is indicative, which is all that the blocks will be.

Indeed, and indicative is often good enough, as long as you accept it might be wrong every so often.

The Registration only says the following:
Received
18 Dec 25
Effective
15 Feb 26
Extend service to St Ives or Penzance. Remumber services Truro - Redruth - Camborne - Penzance to service 18 & Truro - St Ives to service 14. Revise terminal points, route and timetable.
So I'd interpret that as the 41 being absorbed into the 14/18 and be renumbered as such.

There is no suggestion that the 14/17/18 will receive any sort of summer uplift. You’d think they’d mention it if it was temporary. In fact they clearly mention how the 17 coordinates with the 16 to provide a half hourly service. I’m not sure the short E200s on the 16 will provide much capacity mind.

So GCB damaged First’s business causing them to close down and as a result the St Ives, Penzance, Fowey, Mousehole receive a much reduced service. It’ll be interesting how the pro Go Ahead anti First types spin that.

With what most would consider as worse vehicles, as the E400MMCs First used were good, and definitely better than the ex-London castoffs Cornwall will receive next month.

It’ll be interesting if franchising gets done after the study they’re doing at the moment

Let’s be honest.

First hadn’t covered themselves in glory and the rejuvenation of 2016-9 was a long way from the reality of the post Covid era. There were a lot of very justifiable criticisms of First, though the group as a whole gets a disproportionate level of angst meted out with many enthusiasts seemingly stuck with views from the Lockhead era.

Also, I’m not seeing masses of pro Go Ahead chatter on this forum either. GSW is really quite a perfunctory beast. I think the only stellar ops are GSC and Brighton (and they are rightly praised). Oxford is not the beacon it was (distracted by stuff like Carousel and Pulhams?). There was plenty of criticism on GNE and we all know what East Anglia like before they sold that dog of a business.

I don’t have much hope that there will be some big summer uplift and I do think the reduction on St Ives routes is an error. There again, if First has been burning through cash running that network, perhaps some pruning was needed? And let’s not forget stuff like FK chopping Falmouth to Redruth to hourly, or the absolute mess of the Pendeen timetable.

With what most would consider as worse vehicles, as the E400MMCs First used were good, and definitely better than the ex-London castoffs Cornwall will receive next month.
Yes but you get what you can. If you suddenly need 60 additional vehicles, there’s not that many options.

Not sure what your point is?

I listed the good OpCos and then the others, noting than GNE had been criticised (and rightly so). Full quote was

All of this is spot on in my opinion. Glad I have done the 16 while First are still around! This has been stuck in my mind for ages - Put a load of competitive services in then reduce the service when you take over.

Sorry if it's been covered already, are Go-Ahead taking on much of the soon to be ex-First Cornwall staff?

The Truro to Falmouth is a pretty poor timetable as well, buses leave Truro at 15/45 minute intervals, and to think people complained about First’s timetables. There can be quite a queue of students and/or tourists for the Falmouth bus, so I’d advise trying to get the one where there has only been a 15 min gap

Carnon Downs and the university campus are now only served hourly, with one journey missing both these locations

I have spoken to quite a few drivers now from first and I know some people who’s family work for first and they all said no chance they would move across to go ahead myself included the company is atrocious to work for lots of horrible people in management and they are bullies lots of things a reputable company shouldn’t be doing. Most driver I spoke to said they are looking for different jobs.

They’ll have to. They’ll need the drivers and some of the engineering staff. However, other than Truro P&R, TUPE shouldn’t apply.
Stagecoach 'had to' employ Arriva's drivers in Guildford. Didn't mean that happened, apart from penny numbers, and that they weren't left with an emergency reduced service and crippling driver shortage it took two years to recover from...
Only time will tell.

Go Ahead will be able to reduce costs by running from 1 or 2 depots (or outstations) compared to First, which should help increase margins.

No shortage of other driving jobs in Guildford - different jobs market

Probably the wrong season to try to look for other jobs?

This has happened all over the country since 1986. It's the nature of the beast that is deregulation.
