Thanks :) Are they non-stop between YRK & KGX, as usual? Any chance of intermediate times at YRK and also arrival times at KGX for the southbound services, so that 'moves' can be planned? I think buying on board may be the best option, as I won't be doing it on a 180! (I hope a 180 doesn't block the entire line for 4 hours again like a couple of weekends ago - Hull Trains the culprit that time!)

They are stopping additionally at Peterborough and Doncaster to set down and pick up only if the U and the P is what it means between the actual times?

1A62
Departs York at 1405
Arrives Kings Cross at 1739

1A63
Departs York at 1915
Arrives Kings Cross at 2238

1N26
Departs York at 1459

1N28
Departs York at 1929

1N29
Departs York at 2126

These are the times at York and also the arrival times at Kings Cross for the diverted services.

Is that okay?

Where exactly are the ECML engineering possessions? I noticed in the revised East Coast timetable that TheBigD kindly published shows replacement bus services both between P'boro and Grantham and also Grantham/Newark. Is the ECML closed at more than one location?

Thanks

Why would that give the impression that its closed at more than one location? :?

The route is "closed" from end to end but within that there are various Possessions, some of which can pass odd trains via SLW.

Principal possessions throughout the whole weekend as I am aware of are Peterborough (New England North Jct) - Grantham (South Jct), and Barkeston Jct - Newark Northgate (South Jct).

I assume that the hourly Leeds electric services will be dragged into Newark Northgate from the north off the Lincoln line (norhtbound trains)? And the coresponding southbound workings be dragged out northbound onto the Lincoln line?

I'm not local but from looking at the timings, passing points and the maps available to me I can confirm that will be the case.

Yes in effect the set will be turned between Newark and KX, but will obvious right itself again on the return journey.

Ok, thanks a lot for the info. Think I'll try to get out and get some photos of the diversions next month. How many 67s will be required for the 225 drags (I could probably work it out by looking at the timings, but thought I'd seek a more authoritive source)?

Shopping in Lincoln this morning and saw in the near distance what looked like an EWS 66/67 hauling what seemed to be a dead and empty HST unit (or whatever you guys call a blue and silver train with driving cabs at each end!!)

It was crossing Lincoln High st LC at a decent speed heading towards Newark/Doncaster.

Would this be part of driver route learning or just checking the HST doesn't foul anything on the Joint line ready for October 9th?

Any more details available yet? Also, will EMT be running a normal Lincoln/P'boro and Nottingham/Skeg service?
Hi Chap.

I am just back in the UK again, so I should be able to answer your question later next week by PM.

This was 5Z68 11:26 Peterborough Yard to Neville Hill T&RSMD silver East Coast Mk 4 set with 91103 dead in rear, which was worked by 67008.

Passed Spalding 11:48, Sleaford 12:16 and Lincoln 12:41, it then ran to Newark Northgate (where it was booked to run round) and then go via Retford direct to Neville Hill.

I have no current information after Lincoln.

A couple I am aware of are 1352 Grimsby Town - Newark North Gate and the 1536 Newark North Gate - Peterborough return service will use Newark Castle instead of North Gate. There will be some retiming of other services, but don't have details.

Shame that the HST's don't stop at Lincoln, but I guess the change at Peterborough isn't too bad.

A train with driving cabs at each end isn't necessarily a HST, nor is it necessarily a "unit", and there is no such thing as a "HST unit" Just because a train is in fixed formation doesn't mean it is a "unit". A Class 91, rake of Mk4s and a DVT is no more a "unit" than the ATN Class 37s (one at each end) & Mk 2s with through wiring for multiple working.

Yep, that'd be fine, if it was a HST (although there's no need to say anything after HST). But it was a Class 91 locomotive & rake of Mk4 coaches.

I noticed that yesterday there were 2 Network Rail vans parked on the Boston Rd into Sleaford, just by the overbridge that carries the Sleaford avoiding line, and above, on the actual track, was a road/rail vehicle clearing away the encroaching vegetation. So it seems like the Sleaford avoider may be available in both directions, saving the tortuous passage through Sleaford and the gridlock to Saturday afternoon shoppers with the crossing gates being closed more frequently than usual. If only Lincoln's problems were that easily solved!

Do you think this will actually happen? I'm not questioning that it won't happen, but how can the down avoider track be inspected (Once the weed growth has been removed) and made available for heavy haul service at such short notice? I believe also that the Boston Road bridge you mentioned was als due to be replaced?

If what you say is true, then I might have to rethink my strategy about a suitable viewing point!

So I assume by that, nb services will run via Sleaford (I will be on the 1800 service off the Cross all the way to Leeds).

Took a ride on my bike to the avoiding line earlier this afternoon and, sure enough, there is a rail mounted piece of plant cutting away vegetation from the line side. You are still unable to see the track however, only its route indicated by vegetation growing to rail level and above and extending to the 6ft.
Didn't take a camera unfortunately....

It really needs an infrastructure expert (like OT) to comment, but although the track components look in good order (and I got fairly close to the line), opening this line to passenger trains without the clearance of all vegetation and a full and detailed infrastructure examination (whatever that might entail), I really cannot see this line open ready for Oct 9. Stranger things have happened though..........

Thank you for confirming my earlier report. I'm glad my eyes weren't deceiving me.

Any ideas as to whether "19.09 (1A41) Newark-Peterborough 20.38" is expected to go via the Sleaford avoider?

That's usually the case during ECML blockades, but may I refer you to posts 50, 51 and 53 of this thread where it was mentioned that the down avoider was being weed cleared and there was some speculation that this might have been recommissioned in time for northbounds to use the avoider.

However, according to my local, friendly neighbourhood 'bobby', northbounds will traverse the station.

Having said that, an exception might be Hull Trains. According to their amended timetable, it looks like they will use the Allington chord to come off the ECML and reverse at Sleaford...very similar to the November 2008 blockade.
