I live close to two stations in Glasgow: Anniesland and Jordanhill. I quite often take the train into the City Centre, either Glasgow Central or Glasgow Queen Street - the ticket is valid to either. Most of the time I'd get a return from Anniesland, which costs £3 (same as a single, curiously). A return from Jordanhill to Glasgow Cen/Qst is £2.90.
Anniesland is an especailly handy station because it serves 3 lines: the North Clyde line, which goes through Queen Street Low Level, the Argyle Line, which goes through Central Low Level, and the Maryhill Line which goes runs between Anniesland and Queen Street High Level - for this, we'll ignore the Maryhill Line as it's usually slower to get back. I've attached a very crude diagram of the stations and lines of interest.
Sometimes when I'm in the city ready to head home, I'll check the train times and I can get unlucky and have a bit of a longer wait back to Anniesland from whichever of the two stations I'm closest too. However, there might be a train that stops at Jordanhill from Central, which as I mentioned, is close to home too. My question is - is my Anniesland to Glasgow (Any) return ticket valid to get off at Jordanhill? Or would I have to get off at the previous stop (Hyndland) as I could in theory change onto a train for Anniesland there? I have got off at Jordanhill before, and honestly, I don't think any conductor would care (they're super friendly!) as I've got the more expensive ticket and they're so cheap in any case. It would seem a bit outrageous to have to get another single ticket for the way back.
In addition, somewhat related - does anyone know if the Central/Queen Street tickets are valid at any other stations near the centre? E.g. Charing Cross, Argyle Street, High Steet, etc? Where do you even find this out, where is the "rulebook"?
Essentially this just highlights to me the need for tap-on, tap-off like London!
