Hmmm ....intriguing. I wonder if the direction is towards trial or treason ...

Surely hundreds of Lords must have been on trial for loads of things......so was he the last Lord to receive the death penalty?

Well, no, but I will end it here as you are sufficiently close to be awarded the ermine-decked opportunity to ask the next question. He was the last peer to be tried by his peers for a felony, manslaughter, after another driver was killed in a head-on collision: he was found not guilty. Ironically, he seems to have already been a campaigner for laws to improve road safety. The right of peers to be judged by their peers was abolished in 1948, except for impeachment which still exists.

So the trial took place in the House of Lords? I had no idea.....

I feel a bit of a fraud after that, as I clearly didn't know the answer at all, so I'd better make this a very easy one ....

It’s on Ascot racecourse. About a mile from the finish on the “round” course (which is actually triangular - it’s at the northern tip)
