HINT....Whilst batting in a Test Match, the person who needs to be named got a top edge to a very fast delivery, resulting in a minor skull fracture and was carried off unconscious. Fortunately, no major after-effects were felt after a recovery period and he carried on playing at the top level.

Having run out of aussie wicketkeepers I withdrew from further attempts and looked this up. I must confess I had never heard of this player.
I had first heard of him many years ago when reading of the skull fracture incident in a Test Match. He did play for his country over a time period span of 18 years.

If I had made note of a certain Test Match series that is part of cricketing history in the "hint" I mentioned, that would have given the game away.

I ended up looking up the number of stumpings so that disqualifies me, but out of interest Bert Oldfield gets a mention in this song about Don Bradman, by Aussie music legend Paul Kelly

Yes it was, I suspected that one wouldn't last too long. Your turn to take to the field.

That was local, rather than football, knowledge. However…

With what record did a British national football team on its own achieve the highest chart position for a British team’s single?
