There is a modern German author with the surname Eschbach (about 14 years younger than me) who wrote a book in which a water carrier was in the time of the Germanic pagan deity beliefs.

Not Andreas Eschbach. The author of the play in question would be around twice Eschbach' s age (if still around) and is very well known for his plays.

Based on the age of the playwright you give a hint about, I will hazard a guess at Bertold Brecht (who died in 1956) and "The Threepenny Opera" as the name of the play.

Brecht is the author. However the Threepenny Opera (or Dreigroschenoper) is not the play.

I'll hazard a guess -- this involves our friend Mr. P. French, of West Clare fame. Another renowned song of his, is Macnamara's Band: wherein come the words, Hennessey Tennessee tootles the flute... I'd formed the impression that "H.T." was an onomatopoeic coinage representing the sound of the flute, rather than the name of a band member -- but one figures that it could be "either-or-both".

Mainly noted as being a household oval serving dish with a shallow middle section from middle Scotland and the northern counties of England, areas much loved by the reivers. I have seen an example of one of these at a large family gathering with haggis, neeps and tatties.

Isn't there a cave in one of the southern US states called mammoth cave. That has to be big given the name so I will try that.

Quite correct. It is Mammoth Cave which is in the state of Kentucky.
