What do Bette Davis, Michael Caine & Robert De Niro have in common please ?
You are correct, they are all in the titles of songs by the artists you mentioned....Do they all appear in the lyrics/title of a song? Bette Davies Eyes (Kim Carnes), Robert de Nero's Waiting (Bananarama), Michael Caine (Madness).

Who was once described as "General Officer Commanding Menin Gate" - and why?
Pure guess -- the Menin Gate in Ypres (Ieper), Belgium, features impressive and sad commemoration of World War I deaths in said region, much fought-over in that war; was the title perhaps an honorary one for the person -- maybe not in the armed forces at all -- in charge of the running and conservation of that establishment?
The local chief fire officer?
The highest ranking soldier commemorated?
