Question inspired by the IMO excellent thrillers by Brian McGilloway (who lives in that area): his hero Detective-Inspector Benedict Devlin of the Republic of Ireland police force, is based at Lifford, just on the Republic side of the border; he frequently liaises with his N.I. counterparts in Strabane, just on the other side -- whence frequent "north / south" conversations, nonsensical to cartographic pedants -- but how else should people express things? (These places were, long ago, on the County Donegal 3ft. gauge system -- whereon no doubt this "north / south" paradox was daily discourse.)

Not quite, but good enough. She was the first London female bus driver, operating out of Norbiton. I believe she was previously a conductress. (It is possible that there were earlier female bus drivers elsewhere in the ciuntry, but she was the first in London).

Pure guess -- the Menin Gate in Ypres (Ieper), Belgium, features impressive and sad commemoration of World War I deaths in said region, much fought-over in that war; was the title perhaps an honorary one for the person -- maybe not in the armed forces at all -- in charge of the running and conservation of that establishment?
