Anything to do with hills and mountains in the Lakes? Scafell Pike is 978 metres above sea level and there are 214 so-called "Wainwright" tops and summits in and around the Lake District, collectively named after the somewhat grumpy fellwalker Alfred Wainwright. Maybe the 290 is the height above sea level in metres for the lowest of the various peaks.

You are correct, 290 is the height in metres of castle crag, the lowest of the Wainwright, 978 is Scafell Pike in metres and there are 214 wainwrights.

Staying with the British topographical theme, what's the generally acknowledged height in metres above sea level of the summit of Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa?

My late grandmother used to watch this programme because of Phillip Latham who played Bourne, (also watched him in The Pallisers)

The Cedar Tree.
