Thanks. With Tasmania having come up -- it's a place that fascinates me: I propose to annoy people with one of the dreaded multi-part questions (plentiful hints promised, if necessary), about things Tasmanian.
(1) "Who and what" was the historical figure after whom the island is named?
(2) There is a coastal location in Tasmania, of "ill repute" -- a couple of centuries ago, was a penal settlement where hideous stuff happened; and where a very tragic event took place a couple of decades ago. Please name this location.
(3) Tasmania has had, unique to the island, two different species of carnivorous marsupial mammals. One is reckoned (with not quite 100% certainty) to be extinct, as from most of a century ago; the other is still alive and kicking, though undergoing a rather bad time at present. Please name both -- ordinary everyday names, fine: naturalists' Latin names not demanded !
(4) Please name two towns in Tasmania -- other than the capital Hobart; and the place featured in question (2).
