I've read about this at 9am this morning!, it was the 4th Earl Ferrers and he shot his old steward because he had control over an estate due to a separation from his wife (or something like that).
4th Earl Ferrers was a drunk, mad and a womaniser. That's in own words.
He wasn't the first man to be hung at Tyburn but on the new drop gallows rather than the 'Tyburn Tree', which wasn't actually a tree but a primitive gallows which involved pulling a cart away and letting them strangle. It went wrong of course.

Yes, go on then! The actual answer is Trier, Germany - and you shouldn't feel upset, as neither had I until the end of last year when I was asked to arrange for a colleague in work to go to a conference there!

By the way, Henry Stanley was actually born in Wales, but emigrated to USA when he was 18.
No, not him. He was only 20 at the time Dr Livingstone was found.
I didn't realise, but Henry Stanley actually fought in the American Civil War, and it seems as if he fought for both the Confederates and the Unionists!

Originally an entertainment in August to mark the beginning of having to work by candlelight, it became an annual, summer festivity by employees of printing establishments.

Something a bit different, maybe: a question about films (from someone who is very definitely not a film buff).
There seem to be a fair number of feature films which are given ultra-terse titles, as: "The... [monosyllabic noun]". (A trend which annoys me -- IMO trying to be all moody, gritty, and "less-is-more", but managing only to sound silly.) Four such film titles follow:
The Jerk (1979)
The King (2019)
The Road (2009)
The Train (1964)
Please set out, fairly briefly (but more fully than just, e.g., "it's to do with a jerk"): what these various cinematic offerings are about. "Virtual bonus points" for giving the names of their respective directors.
Something a bit different, maybe: a question about films (from someone who is very definitely not a film buff).

I can answer the last, directed by John Frankenheimer, and starring Burt Lancaster as LaBiche, a railway manager(?), the plot being as Paris falls to the Allies in 1944, one of the German generals decides to plunder the Louvre and take most of artwork back to Germany. The activities of les cheminots, or French railway workers sabotaging the railways is the basis of the film
