In the Middle Ages, Holland was famous for its woollen products.
The profits from the Wool Trade financed the building of several churches in Eastern England.
So, something to do with the wool manufacturing/trading process?

Correct. In his own country, van Veen was responsible for the drainage and engineering works that were associated with the delta area in south-west Holland.

The obvious answer would be the United States (though I have a feeling that were this QI the hooter would be sounding right about now ).

George Beauchamp designed the first electrically amplified guitar in Los Angeles in the early 30's.
