Of all people I thought you would spot the difference beteween the two.

Stirling and Scone are two closer to home.

I'm inclined to give it to Golghar, because he's essentially correct, they are all former seats of government, but also former CAPITAL cities.
Hence the Rio de Janeiro/RIO DE JANEIRO clues.

I wrote "seat of government" on purpose as Rawalpindi was never officially the capital of Pakistan. That was Karachi till 1961. In that year Islamabad became the official capital but govenment offices were first moved to Rawalpindi and gradually transfered to Islamabad as construction of the new city progressed.

Anyway, here's my question:

The flag of Somalia shown above carries a five-pointed star. What are these points supposed to represent?

Thats close enough. When the lights were going through the planning application process the locals ensured that there is a maximum number of days per year that floodlights can be raised and used. The various England games plus the increased number of T20's this season lead to Middx having to switch grounds. Your floor.

Which country now has a single colour flag without any symbols...and what is the colour ?

Until Gadaffi fell from power, I would have answered Libya and it was green, but as the Libyan flag is now a tricoloured one with a symbol it can't be that - yet I'm not aware of any other country using a single coloured plain flag now.

So more in hope than anything else I'll suggest Libya even though it's obviously wrong!

I will award this to you, as I was "reliably" informed a solid colour green flag is still being used in many areas of western and southern Libya to reflect Islam.

Right..... Next question.... Another very easy one:

You are doing astronomy and you see two satellites crossing the sky; one is moving faster than the other. Which one is in the higher orbit?

If we are to assume a similar motion of the satellites to planetary bodies, then the satellite at a lower altitude will be orbiting faster. This can be explained using Kepler's laws of planetary motion, whereby the orbital velocity 2πr/t is given by the equation T[sup]2[/sup]=R[sup]3[/sup]. (T = orbital period; R = Semi-major axis (orbital radius)).

Look at any simple solar system model — you'll see the inner planets move far faster.

Yes, the lower a satellite is, the faster it is - and the impression is magnified by it being a lot closer to the observer as well - some satellites are only a couple of hundred miles up.

You can also get a rough idea of their purpose from their apparent orbital speed as well..... the bigger more expensive communications, Earth monitoring and other scientific platforms tend to be in the longer lasting higher orbits ( exception: the ISS which is in a relatively low orbit and needs constant boosting to keep it up ). Very fast low satellites tend to be cheap quick reaction spy satellites or short duration scientific stuff. Anything that flashes is likely to be a discarded rocket case - caveat; if it has navigation lights it's an aircraft!!!
