Not him either, I fear -- I gather that he had a "thing" for Jamaica: but the correct-answer bod had quite a "menu" of different islands in the course of their life.

Correct ! (the particular novel being of course Whisky Galore. inspired by his lengthy sojourn on the Hebridean island of Barra).

Over to you.

Which major country has never had snakes (well, sea snakes may be seen offshore), has a total ban on importing or keeping snakes, and why?

New Zealand
That is the right answer. New Zealand has the right environment for snakes to flourish, and there are concerns that introducing them would cause an imbalance in the Island's eco structure.

Greenland does not have any snakes, too cold for them to survive in the wild. Permission may be granted to keep one.

Likewise Ireland, which has no restrictions regarding keeping snakes. St Patrick banishing all snakes from Ireland is just a legend

Alfred Mosher Butts invented a game called Alfred’s Other Game, but it wasn’t commercially successful. However, the game he previously invented eventually sold very well, albeit after he’d sold the it in return for an ongoing royalty, and after the game had been renamed by its new owners.

What was the game originally called, and what was that name changed to?

Caziques has the distinction of being the highest scoring word ever played in Scrabble, but for how many points was it played?

If no-one has got the answer within 24 hours, i will award the floor to the closest person.

Ooh ! Rhar was a complete guess ...

Music :

The first "cover version" recorded by Van Morrison in his solo career was a song originallly performed by which other artist ?

Just to be clear I'm asking for the name of the Artist, NOT the title of the song.

I'd really like to know the answer to this.
