Got to answer this one even though if I get it correct I will declare open floor. With batteries etc, rare earths are becoming increasingly important. I am a chemist and know the periodic table off by heart. This mine has had the most element discoveries of anywhere.
yttrium (not a rare earth but a transition element) is named after it and so is Erbium, Terbium and Ytterbium -all of which are Lanthanides or F block elements. And I am almost certain Gadolinium was also discovered there and possibly Thulium and Scandium. Very historically important place to science.

Correct. It is named after Strontian, a village in Lochaber where it was discovered in 1790.

The banned version of Wind in the Willows, when Toad and Mole tried and failed to get it together after one of Ratty’s drunken boating parties. Mole was blind drunk, Ratty was ratted and Toad was completely pooped.
@DaleCooper, @Gloster: this was indeed, an admittedly fictional sequence of events -- love the Wind in Willows idea; but what I'm thinking of, originated in the oral rather than the written canon; and might be seen as just a little bit more biologically "kosher", than the suggested Toad / Mole scenario.
