No most definitely. To say "that they replaced" would refer to taxes that were in existence prior to the introduction of death duties, whereas I need to know the taxes that followed on after the end-period of death duties.

Death duties were introduced in the 16th century (I think), with Inheritance tax and Capital Gains tax replacing them I believe.

From what I recall, the first tax to replace death duties was Capital Transfer Tax, which in turn was replaced by Inheritanance Tax.

Howsoever, if what I also recall, death duties as a named tax was introduced later than the 16th century, but I am willing to be corrected on that, so I will hold the query open until resolved.

Your right. Having just double checked myself, I was partly right. Death duties were introduced late on in a century, just not the one I guessed....
