HINT....Like the last football conundrum that I set, the one in question is from the Midlands.

Another hint.....
After the team in question went out of existence, the town had four successor clubs, all about Midland League standard and a couple had runs in very early rounds of the FA Cup, but all eventually went out of existence.
The town currently has a team, but even though they finished their fixtures and finished in 6th place in quite a good standard division of a major non-league, events caused them to seek voluntary demotion to a lower status league.

Are you 100% sure they are a Midlands team and not Staffordshire?

They are most definitely not from Staffordshire. The county they are from has a major standard cricket team in the County Championship.

Well done. The full name of the club was Loughborough Athletic and Football Club.
I think the @Gloster is declared the winner, as he was the first to name the team.
Geographically, the Midlands is the best geographical area, as Leicestershire is not in the North West, the North East, the South West or the South East.

Indeed. After seeking, and failing to gain re-election at the Football League's AGM in Manchester in May 1900, the underperforming Loughborough club then applied to join the Midland Football League, but didn't attend the MFL's fixtures meeting in Nottingham in early June 1900 and shortly afterwards folded without ever playing again.

Although he had three daughters, he not have any sons, but he had a younger brother who inherited the title. However, his death is directly relevant to the question.

That is basically it. He and his father (the 1st Lord Stamp) were both killed when a stick of bombs hit the family’s air-raid shelter on 16 April 1941. As there is a legal fiction that when there is a matter of succession and two people die at the same time, the elder is deemed to have died first (this gets HMRC two lots of death duties), so he was considered to have died after his father. Therefore the title passed to him but then instantaneously on to his brother, who became the the 3rd Lord Stamp.

If this is the one that I am thinking of, who changed his name to that in the question (I cannot recall his original name), he was a member of the Electric Light Orchestra.
