Dimbleby and Curtice are baffled by what's going on in Tyne & Wear.

Neither of them seems to quite understand the implications of tonight so far.

Houghton & Sunderland South

Green: 725
Liberal Democrats: 908
Conservatives: 12,324
UKIP: 2,379
Labour: 24,000
Independent: 479

LABOUR WIN WITH A MAJORITY OF 24,000

UKIP > Tory move there. Labour not up as much as I expected there. A very safe labour seat

Results far from encouraging for Labour.

A long way to go indeed but I suspect the Tories may hold onto a small majority.

Expect Sunderland Central, Washington & Sunderland West and Slough relatively soon. Swindon North, Battersea and Putney should come in at around one o'clock.

Speaking of Kippers, Neil Hamilton is now speaking on the BBC. He looks like a Spitting Image puppet.

Oh my word. This could actually be happening.

Shame about the SNP, though.

Totally with you here, an absolute joke of a party who have been hopeless at governing Scotland, ineffective in London, obsessed with 1 thing only and cannot understand the word, NO!

Sorry Me123 but thats my view.

I think it is a shame that the SNP are down to lose seats. That likely means Tory gains, so Labour will have to squash the Tories in England and right now the results just don't match the predictions.

Last time, the exit poll predicted 305 Conservative seats, by the way.

This is going to be interesting.

If the exit poll is 100% accurate, I'm not sure a labour government is possible. Lib dems are being very very vocal about no deal. So the numbers might not add up.

All those people in sports halls are volunteers by the looks of things.

I wonder if anyone has ever come across their own ballot in the count...

I wouldnt be to sure about Scottish tory gains, the lib dems are more likely to do well up here in a Westminster election, there is also a good bit of voting against the SNP by disgruntaled voters, I know of 2 like this. Torys will hang on to Upper Nithsdale but doubt any or many other gains.

Don't forget postal voters is the message from John Curtice right now. Postal voters vote earlier and may well have done before the Tory collapse...

Question: What time (if any) is everyone in work tomorrow?

I booked the week off for unrelated matters :D

Thankfully I've booked tomorrow off work, as I need to pack for a holiday on Saturday.

8 o'clock, but I had a sleep earlier on.

I might grab a couple of hours' sleep a bit later on too.

...and may also have voted early to ensure that their opposition vote didn't get missed by something like a hospital admission or a day working away from home!

Very true! Don't know what's happened in Newcastle-under-Lyme...

Talk of the Lib Dem candidate losing their deposit in Hastings & Rye. Amber Rudd may be out the door as Labour folks are 'smiling'.

Sunderland Central is expected up next in about 15 minutes.

Tory voters are traditionally likely to be older and probably Tory.

Late voters are likely to be younger and probably Labour.

Exit polls are a sample anyway...

The collapse in the Tory campaign started long before postal votes were sent out.

Our third result of the night...

Sunderland Central

Independent: 305
Labour: 25,056
Green: 705
Liberal Democrats: 1,777
UKIP: 2,209
Conservatives: 15,059

LABOUR WINS WITH A TOTAL OF 25,056 VOTES

Labour up 5%, Tories up 10%

2.3 swing Labour to Conservatives.

Things get much more baffling.

Keeping eyes and ears open, hearing that Wrexham and Clwyd South, both shown as Tory gains from Labour in those exit polls, now not expected to go. Best of all, the Daily Torygraph is tweeting about HOW the next Tory leader WILL BE chosen!! Yippee!! Previous leader before May to be given an unopposed coronation = Michael Howard - say no more.

14% reduction in UKIP vote - gone back to the Tories. There were big results for the Kippers in the two Sunderland seats just declared last time around. BBC seem to be missing this. The swing here is UKIP to Tory not Tory/Labour. Swing in Newcastle is Tory labour due to lower kipper vote last time.
