I am saying nothing. I thought it would be a dead cert that Tories wouldn't be in power in 2015, that we'd vote to remain in the EU and Trump would not be president

I would like to see a Labour landslide, if only for the reaction from the gutter press

Not *every* possible way. The value of the Pound v Dollar/Euro has dropped quite sharply. But I'm okay with that.

I'm guessing that's more due to uncertainty than anything else.

Indeed. The prospect of a hung Parliament will scare investors away from the Pound. Expect the FTSE-100 (and more importantly the FTSE-250) to drop a couple of percent tomorrow morning.

Bit sceptical here, with only 141 polling stations sampled you've not even got a quarter of the constituencies. Hopefully it's right with regard to the Conservatives and I think that whatever happens it's not gong to be as easy as they had expected. The SNP's demise seems to be surprising and they're forecasting significantly more losses than I'd expect (although there will be losses for them). This could be pivotal because the Tories are hoping to pick up SNP seats.

The exit poll makes a coalition of chaos very possible. Lab, Lib, SNP and PC would have the same number of seats as the Tories. Bring it on. Whatever happens, I'd obviously be gutted to see widespread SNP losses but even if TM just loses her majority I'll have a big smile on my face. Her position will be in jeopardy without a majority tomorrow morning.

Time to see what comes out in the wash during the counting.

I bet some of the civil servants sorting out the deals reference the EU exit are not having the best of nights

The exit polling has been correct in the last four (five?) elections (unlike the pre-election polls) so they must have a pretty good idea of what they're doing.

Long way to go yet. However IF the exit poll is right I will offer Mr Corbyn a fulsome apology. He will have proved all of us wrong.

Also IF the exit poll is right MK South will become a Labour gain from Conservative.

Not dismissing it entirely, if it's the same methodology as the previous it should be reasonably accurate. Just seems hard to draw conclusions when they haven't sampled from even a majority of seats.

We shall see. Could be a good night for Labour.

This may well be the first election/referendum in a while that's not going to leave me crying in the morning!

But general elections are decided by the results in marginal constituencies in our fptp system. Thus a pretty good picture can be drawn from sampling those seats considered to influence the overall result the most. The rock solid blue and red seats are very unlikely to change so it's reasonable to assume no change in them.

Only other factor is the exit poll doesn't include postal votes, nor the last hour or so of actual voting.

Labour hold Newcastle-upon-Tyne Central.

More news on that as details become clear.

Turnout has increased largely in Sunderland & Houghton, so no clear total yet.

Aye I'll be needing to offer some apologies as well but I'm going to hold off a total apology until he's won an election outright

That's a landslide for Chi Onwurah.

Newcastle beats Sunderland, as in the EU referendum last year. I'll try not to refer to Brexit too much over the course of the night.

2.1% swing to Labour in Newcastle.

And, in another result, Sunderland wasn't the first to declare. A funny night ahead, methinks.

Newcastle won last year in the EU referendum, too.

Dimbleby and Curtice are baffled by what's going on in Tyne & Wear.

Neither of them seems to quite understand the implications of tonight so far.

Houghton & Sunderland South

Green: 725
Liberal Democrats: 908
Conservatives: 12,324
UKIP: 2,379
Labour: 24,665
Independent: 479

LABOUR WIN WITH A TOTAL OF 24,665

Not quite as landslidey as the exit poll suggested, so that's a glimmer of hope.

That doesn't stop it from being a landslide. I'm allowed to say it's a landslide, everyone knows it's a safe seat.

Still no exact Labour figure for Houghton & Sunderland South due to microphone fault.
