I did French to GCSE, and did a couple of years of German as well.
Despite what must be going on 9 years of trying to learn French, I can't understand any of it :D (And it's not because I wasn't trying)

I found French the easy one, German was the most difficult. My German teacher was constantly nipping out of the lessons to go and have a cigarette!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned PE yet, I for one hate PE, I hav'nt done a PE lesson for two years, yet I'm surprisingly fit. For me PE is like public humiliation; I'm absolutely atrocious at all sports apart from cross country running. Kid always seemed to use PE as a supierity contest, which I always came close to last in.

Anyone else had any horrid PE experiences.

At my school we have games every Monday and then PE on Wednesday. Games I like: in the autumn it is rugby which I'm okay at (only because I don't play in the scrum, I'm a winger); in spring it's football, which I love, it's the only sport I am in the team for; then in summer it's cricket and athletics. I like cricket but I'm pretty useless at it (apart from fielding) and I am quite good at athletics in the 100m,200m and long jump. My favourite has to be football, I love to clear the ball upfield whilst in defence - or in the words of my teacher: 'clatter the ball!'
Usually I like PE but I hate it when we do swimming, I absolutely loathe it <(

Anyone else had any horrid PE experiences.
Only the fact I hate swimming!

We've got something in common! I was like you, useless with a bat and ball, but when it came to running I was miles out in front! I was quite good at swimming too, but hockey or football? Completely Hopeless!

I wouldn't worry about the whole 'good at sport, I'm the best' situation, as when I was at school, about 95% of the people in the top PE group were in the bottom sets of English, Maths, Languages and Science!

Like me also, with the exception of football, I am a sprinter (anyone who dares mention a class 15x...). The only reason I can play rugby is because I play winger, and they just run like hell.

Hey! I'm in top set for everything. :)

I've actually lost a stone since I stopped doing compulsory PE lessons. Go figure.

The only sports I actually liked was hockey and cricket, and my least favourite was almost certainly swimming.

I love swimming. We have a good pool in Oxted. Not far from the station. Didn't do it in school though.

My problem was I was best at high jump, however you only do that once a year at most places ( i think we did it twice once though :)

Did you also end up swapping words between then in a sentence? For example accidentally using a French word in a German sentence. Or was that just me

I hated PE, except for football since I was a half-decent defender. I largely hated it for the same reasons you did - where physical prowess was more important than skill although my main dislike came from the weather - used to be outside for an hour at a time in summer (aka sunburn despite my best attempts)!

Swimming was ok but now I'm far too self-concious to swim. :(

I never did that myself but I knew a lot of people who did! Could be very amusing sometimes!

How many of those doing their GCSEs now:

1) Are planning to go to university?

2) Have been put off from going to university by the higher tuition fees?

I'm just about at the end of my undergraduate life so interested to find out what other people think.

I had swimming yesterday, wasn't that bad as we did water polo!

Also my year had sports day today and I won a medal! <:D I don't have a very sporty house so I doubted we'd win; nevertheless we still tried hard. As I said before I am a sprinter (no pun intended ;)) so I did the 100m,200m and the 4-100m relay. I came 3rd in the 100m metres (everyone knew they wouldn't beat the winner, he's ridiculously fast and had spikes on); we came 2nd in the relay and I won the 200m in a time of 27.68secs (does anyone know how quick this is?)!

I start my GCSE's in September. I'm doing History, RS, Business Studies, French over two years and accelerated German. I think I'll be OK once I've got my Maths sorted. We've started the Science course already.

I'm no sprinter, but I'm quite good at long distance. Came forth in the year overall, and there were about 80 running. I used to swim a lot, but I gave it up once I'd done a few awards.

Interesting question.

If I'm honest, I wouldn't mind studying Journalism at University, but on the other hand it's got much harder to get into a decent Uni, and whilst I fully support the present Government I don't know if I want to have to live with £36,000 of student debts over my head (over time). That fee doesn't even include the cost of living. Whilst I'm aware of the schemes that exist to ease the fees and the burden of heavy prices, I could take an apprenticeship in various fields of other work that interest me, which also earn what would be considered a 'fair' salary in the UK.

Or, I could just become a train driver. :)

£36,000 of debt is relatively small for students now. I know people who will be leaving university with £114,000 worth of debt!

Yes, but that would be for studies involving things like medicene and law. I wouldn't do that, personally. Though I suppose in theory it would be a smaller debt.

Good luck with your GCSEs. You should do well in English, not many GCSE students are up to your standards these days! (Some of them can't spell basic words)

Although the unnecessary apostrophe did creep in there :)

I know what you mean, some people's English is let's say, not that good. :)

I start my GCSEs next year too (just trying to think what year I am in as my school has this really odd year system - Lower Removes = Y9). As for English as a subject, I loathe it! Too much 'analyse this text' and 'pick out the literary devices used.' It's so dull :(
