That would be an interesting discussion with your new "friend" inside.

"What are you in for?" - "Murder, how about you?" - "I was poking my head in some bushes looking for 69015!" :D
Wonder if there's a decent view from the top floor cell windows? Could ironically give a second opportunity to get it for sight!

Anyone know which are viewable at Longport from passing trains, please, and whether locos are still being moved about or fairly static?

Many thanks

If you're going past anyway, why not just get a train that stops there?, the depot's only 5mins walk from Longport station
I've done that a few times, and walked on paths around the perimeter of the depot, including the footbridge. But the reality is you can't see a great deal more by doing that, than you can from the train. So I'm just trying to understand whether it's worth going there or not.

If the couple of 69s I'm interested aren't visible - eg because they're in the shed, then there's not a lot of point me going - hence my question: anyone know which are viewable at Longport from passing trains, please, and whether locos are still being moved about or fairly static?

Many thanks

They've been shuffled around a bit over the past few days. This morning it was primarily 69003 and 007 that were easily identifiable, whereas a week ago it was 69010 and 011 out front - at least one of those latter two looks to be towards the back of the yard now.

I will probably pop down this evening or tomorrow if I get the chance. You've got 2 options really, you can view the depot from the gate where the demic 66048 is or you can view it across from Chemical Lane where the newly re-instated sidings at Longport station are. I picked up 69010 and 69011 the day they arrived, they were easily viewable and close to the mainline, the big numbers deffo helped!

Many thanks Dan,
I found 69007 round the back at Longport today, but it looks as though 69010's going to be tricky (thought it was going for storage in Whitemoor Yard)!
Good to see it's found it's way back to Doncaster Up Decoy.

I might try to get it there - am I likely to be successful or disappointed if I take a train between Doncaster and Retford?

Perhaps this is just temporary whilst the first sheds get off-leased. At which point they'd be introduced?
I am hearing a temporary slight reduction in workload and they will be back in service in April. Presumably, if the current work is more suited to '66s' it makes more sense to temporarily store the '69s' than continuing to pay exams, maintenance etc, for something that might not be earning money? I am told there are a few new contracts to start during the Spring.

UKR has a tour advertised using a 69 for the end of March so there's some work for them planned

It seems as though 69013 has disgraced itself hauling 6Y42 1413 Hoo Junction Up Yard to Eastleigh East Yard https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:H39982/2026-02-03/detailed#allox_id=0 as it failed at 16:00 between Barnes and Barnes Bridge.

Unfortunately its train is blocking both the UP lines from Mortlake and the DN Fast towards Barnes, also the DN Hounslow is blocked.

The only routes through Barnes are the UP Hounslow onto the UP Slow and the DN Slow onto the DN Richmond.

Chaos reigns.

SWR’s Journey Check has this…
Due to a broken down freight train between Barnes and Barnes Bridge some Richmond and Hounslow lines are blocked.
What's Going On:
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 20:00 03/02.
What We're Doing About It:
The train crew are in contact with our fleet maintenance team who are investigating and working towards fixing the fault.
That’ll be why it is stood so long. I bet SWR’s maintenance team are struggling to diagnose the fault on a GBRf loco…

I thought that was amusing, probably a dropdown list of comments that they can use and the wording can't be altered.

The train has now moved to Kew Bridge but it has been sitting there for the last 45 minutes with 1Z99 behind it at New Kew Junction.

It was SWR fitters who effected a temporary repair to an air leak that enabled the train to move forward.

I see the 6Y48 0901 Eastleigh East Yard to Hoo Junction Up Yard is currently 200 minutes late, and there was a report of a broken down freight train in the Winchester area earlier.

Did 69013 break down again?

Many thanks Dan,

Is Doncaster - Retford or Doncaster - Gainsborough best for viewing DONCBELMD (69010)? And is EASTLGHYD the station yard, or the yard north of Eastleigh (69016)?

Cheers
