:( GA seem to be in the brown stuff again with 315 problems last night (damaged pans) resulting in suspension of metro service. This morning 360 stock appears to be suffering similar faults. Defective Over head line somewhere perhaps ?

Line-side fire and OHLE problems were reported yesterday in Ilford, no idea if both are linked.

The lineside fire at Ilford was pretty minor (grass alight due to a fried pigeon) was put out by extinguishers, its proximity to running lines and OHL equipment is why caution was taken.

Dawdling alongside a pair of 315s due to OLE2 the arcing was amazing from both pans. Thought it was just the heat so didn't bother reporting it. Whoops!!

It's behind you.
Oh no it isn't.
(Panto. Sorry.)

If you want a good pantomime the GEML can be a good place to start if it is having a bad day. It doesn't like the heat, the sooner the OHL renewal project is finished the better, but there is still quite a bit to do.

Especially the twitter :)

Don't get me started about that :P I had someone claim that the 315s are still using the same pantographs since brand new, and then called me a "railway apologist" (who defends the TOCs at all costs) when I pointed out that the current pantograph design wasn't used until the 1990s

Surely the 315 still have Stone Faively AMBR Mk 1 pantographs fitted, at least that's all I've ever seen there. Any power collection problems are more likely to be caused in the hot weather by the non-compensated OHLE, which apart from changing the insulators to cope with 25KV in the '70s, as not been changed since it was installed in the '40s!

Any idea when the knitting will be finished, I read they were pulling all the stops out to finish by the Olympics ( oops was that 2016 or 2020 ) they have been at it for years

Don't think the situation was helped by the insistence that full weekend engineering works were stopped. That must have slowed the process down considerably.

Crap, thanks for the correction :o  didn't realise that old design was still used.

Latest http://www.abelliogreateranglia.co.uk/about-us/news/2014/07/service-alteration

Due to a problem with the overhead line equipment in the London area that caused damage to the pantographs of several trains on Saturday 19 July, Abellio Greater Anglia regrets to inform passengers that a reduced Metro service will operate until further notice.

Repairs are being carried out as quickly as possible to the 17 Class 315 units affected by the pantograph damage. Eight have already been repaired, with a further eight receiving work on Sunday 20 July, but we are still left with a shortage of units meaning that a reduced service will be in operation on Monday 21, Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 July while repair work is completed.

As a result, the Metro service will operate to the published Saturday timetable on Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday with additional services running early in the morning.

Customers travelling on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 July are advised to check travel arrangements tomorrow morning for full details as information systems, journey planners and live departure boards are updated overnight (Sunday 20 July) for any alterations that may affect your train services.

As repairs are completed trains will re-enter service so it is likely that the level of service will improve during Tuesday and Wednesday but passengers are advised to check the status of the Metro service at www.abelliogreateranglia.co.uk before they travel.

Please be aware that during the morning peak times we anticipate that Maryland, Forest Gate, Manor Park, Ilford and Romford stations will be extremely busy. Abellio Greater Anglia tickets are accepted on Transport for London busses between 05.00 to 10.00 and 16.00 to 20.00 on the following routes: Brentwood and Romford 498, Harold wood and Romford 347, Romford and Stratford 86, Ilford and Stratford 25 as well as London Underground on the Central line. Abellio Greater Anglia managers and customer service staff will also be available at these stations to provide information and assistance to passengers.

Abellio Greater Anglia would like to apologise to passengers for any inconvenience caused by these changes and would like to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to return to the normal weekday service as soon as we are able.

As usual, cue barrage of abuse on Twitter :(

A Saturday service plus as many extras as the number of available units allows is not going to be at all pleasant, especially in these temperatures. Usually in these circumstances it is near impossible to board at Manor Park, Forest Gate and Maryland at the height of the peak. Best to avoid completely if possible.

The Monday to Friday service requires 18 more 315s than a Saturday, so some impressive unit juggling will be required to cough up units for any additional services.

Meanwhile the Southend line is now flooded. Hope most of the cyclists on the annual London Southend bike ride got back before this happened, otherwise they will have to use their own rail replacement bike.

Looks like some excellent work over the weekend has repaired most of the 315s. There are just 6 cancellations this morning which though not great, is far better than originally thought.

The techs at Ilford have done an amazing job over the weekend to get these 17 315's sorted. They had 9 still stopped at 15:00 today, which was only 2 short for a full service.

They've got no spare 315 pans at Ilford now, and they've also exhausted the suppliers supplies(!), so let's hope the fleet hold up until some more pans are delivered.

I'll correct you on this one both Southend lines suspended for a period. Bikes going nowhere.

The Chingford service is now suspended for the remainder of day. Plus there was (another) signal/track circuit failure at Liverpool street this morning. At this rate, AGA will be paying me to use their service.

After my train was cancelled this morning due to a suspicious item (reportedly a sandwich) being found at Wickford, I wonder what tonight will bring on the Liverpool Street line?

But they didn't KNOW what it was until it was examined.

We'll leave the next suspect package. If it goes bang, it'll be ok to say "sorry we thought it was harmless", no harm done then?

Point taken, however, as this train comes from Shenfield having been there all night, I presumed it would have been discovered last night/early this morning when it was cleaned.

The trains are cleaned each night, aren't they?

Yes they are.

I don't know at which point the bag was discovered, but if there had been no official public access to the train before it was found, that would make it even more suspicious.
