I’ve just achieved my Level 2 Literacy Functional skills I’m proper buzzing at the moment are you more likely to get recognised for a job having a Level 2

Depends on the company. Most firms look for 'talent' and skills, such as customer service and other relevant experience.

I have no qualifications at all, but have experience in rail from volunteering at a heritage railway and also being chosen to go to a TOC's academy. I ended up being sent for assessments and interviews and currently awaiting a position for a temporary role.

So really, your qualifications don't matter unless the job description says they do, you just have to sell yourself as best as you can!

It depends what subject it is though. Having no qualifications won't get you very far if you want to go into engineering. Although given the misuse of the term "engineer" in our country maybe not!

My TOC is now adding English and Maths to their recruitment criteria. I would say that you just put yourself slightly ahead of others.

Well done. You could probably use it to get an apprenticeship in replacement for GCSEs in English. I’ve got a couple of L3 certificates and I’ve not noticed they make a difference. I hit the impression I’d still have got them even if I didn’t submit any evidence to be honest too. Was t convinced they are held in much regard.

I do agree. C.Eng is essential for certain engineering jobs and that is virtually impossible without a degree. However, some of the best teachers I have ever known do not have degrees. No way could I have got where I am without a minimum of a BSc .

Being knowledgable in a subject does not mean one is a good teacher of it. Teaching requires skills beyond a good knowledge of the subject.

Exactly. In university it is touted as the be all and end all. Oh he/she is a PhD- in fact the whole department are. So what? Having a PhD means one is extremely knowledgeable but one could also be a lousy teacher.

Ive spent the last 3 months cleaning up a CEngs work, it means nothing to me.
