Got all my fingers and toes crossed its this year tbh. Hopefully when they lift this recruitment freeze we can get on board.

Are you still a trainee or fully passed out mate?
Yeah all passed out
I have just sent a follow up email, waiting on a reply.

it’s good to hear some positive news, did you have to resit the dmi?
Unfortunately, I did have to resit the dmi since it had been 2 years since the first one. Not sure what the actual time scale of them lapsing is.

What depot are you at?

Well its been a year and 3 months so far for me... was it a little more relaxed or just the same would you say?

Has anyone heard anything lately regards pottential courses this year?

I sent a catch up email at the end of April, they have no news about courses this year at the moment. Just got to keep waiting

You’d like to think we would hear something June onwards. Won’t most of the current trainees be done by then ?

I suppose ultimately it depends on how many new drivers they need, and whether the work load has picked up again.

We received the email with letter attached back in july, and i did hear they were having a recruitment freeze for a year. So june/july would make sense to potentially hear something

I do know of a couple of drivers that have left within the last year and moves elsewhere so could bode well for us sitting in the pool.

Was I in Watford with you doing the psychometrics in Jan/Feb last year?

Yeah I’m the same , sucks doesn’t it. Have to just be optimistic we hear something this year

If it’s a drivers position you are referring too then I would be highly surprised you’d hear anything this year.

FL are painting a picture of financial turmoil internally, currently. Latest pay offer comes with a whole heap of T&C changes, reduction in hours etc. Either accept it or FL might not exist within 2 years etc etc.

Doubt FL will be recruiting again anytime soon. Then again, stranger things have happened I suppose.

Even if it's next year i'll be happy! But it does sound like its quite a chaotic time at the company.

I imagine if thats the case they may lose a few drivers that aren't happy with the new T&C's.

Which in turn would be good for those waiting in the talent pool surely?

Without trying to be despondent, I really can’t see FL recruiting anytime soon. There just isn’t the work currently.

If anything, FL would be quite happy to “lose” a few drivers.

Unfortunately I have to second what @Chingy has said.. the Mendip work has dried up to the point drivers are not meeting their annual hours.. therefore the company are proposing roster changes to try and move most work to within week and rely less on rest days.. even if the pay deal was to go through with changes to t&cs I can’t see anyone leaving as I dont think there is a better bet out there in terms of freight work

Apologies for sounding doom and gloom but just want to paint a realistic picture for all.. although I do hope things change and you are all offered courses in the near future

Thanks, I appreciate your honesty and insights, I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best then.

Heard on the grapevine that there will be 2 courses next year, for people already in the talent pool.

Worth noting (without being doom & gloom), internal applicants in the talent pool will be getting priority though, of which there is a considerable number.

I Imagine it will be depot dependant though right?

How do you know that there is a considerable amount?
